Alkisah is the new album by Indonesian duo Senyawa. Alkisah is co-released by a multitude of independent record labels from all over the globe each with different packaging and design, with multiple version of remixes by various artists.Senyawa is an experimental music duo with Rully Shabara (extended vocal technique) and Wukir Suryadi (homemade instrument). The music that they create is a combination of extended vocal technique and a homemade instrument. The instrument was handcrafted by master instrument builder Wukir out of one long piece of bamboo, it is a string instrument with guitar pick-ups—it is amplified and processed through several effects pedals but at times is played as an acoustic instrument, percussion and string instrument. They are located in the ancient city of Jogjakarta, Central Java, Indonesia and their music is a reflection of their traditional Javanese heritage filtered through a framework of contemporary experimental music practices. Senyawa try to push the boundaries of both traditions in an attempt to mix the musics’ of the east and the west to create a new sound.

"Michael Hurley came to play les ateliers claus early May 2013. A few days prior to the concert Michael flew into Brussels. For reasons - lets say unknown - Michael wasn’t picked up at the airport and tried to make his way to a hotel. There’s was no connection with Michael and we had no clue where he was. Nobody had. He went missing until a few hours prior to the concert.
Michael Hurley showed up - not very happy - telling us how he missed his pickup and checked into a random hotel. For some reason Michael managed to book himself a room in one of the shabbiest hotel - restaurants in Brussels. Happy to be amongst people and fans again, Michael played a long set, just not enjoying enough wine to forget about his lonesome adventure.
We gave number 13 with this reason to Michael Hurley."

"75 Dollar Bill came to perform at les ateliers claus twice - in very different circumstances, but never uneventful. The first passage was in November 2016 as a duo formed by Che Chen & Rick Brown. A few days prior to this gig Donald Trump just got elected and the general atmosphere was low to say the least. In 2019 they came back with Andrew Lafkas on bass, politics were forgotten for one night, and they rocked a full house with instruments that just made it in time for the last gigs of their European tour.
This live ateliers claus release is a compilation of both passages. Che Chen And Rick Brown edited & chose the tracks themselves, four tracks from 2016 and two tracks from 2019."

Gaël Segalen came to play at les ateliers claus end September 2018 on the acousmonium that was built for one day. We have fond memeries of this day and are happy to share the archival recordings.
French sound artist Gaël Segalen aka IhearU has been an activist and musician for twenty years, with a very diverse background in sound and education. A graduate of electroacoustic composition, she releases solo and duet albums (Erratum, Frm-at, Firecracker Recordings labels), runs workshops, designs commissioned pieces, composes for visual works.
She is also co-founder of Polyphones, a Parisien network dedicated to women in musical experimentation. Focused on polylistening, dissonance and new music, she manages to transpose the complexity of the world into electroacoustic and polyrhythmic soundscapes, bruitism and ‘DFR’ (Danceable Field Recording) compositions.

"Razen is the Belgian band led by the duo Brecht Ameel and Kim Delcour who have been exploring different musical worlds since 2010. For the past decade we witnessed the shape of their own sound without repeating themselves in a truly unique way.Razen played their very first concert at les ateliers claus and came back a decade later. This concert stands for 10 years of Razen-evolutionary music while revisiting our venue. It took place end September 2019.
Razen has been a constant factor in my own personal musical journey, while working at Kraak - listening to their debut recordings, seeing the first performances and then witnessing them refine the Razen sound without compromising. Not losing their focus, but in the contrary mastering a certain continuity in their layered compositions while carefully choosing the instrumentations. A heady brew of deep listening music that is almost medieval in mood and wholly reverential in technique."---

Roxane Métayer came to play les ateliers claus December 2019. She performed on our 1st floor where she surrounded herself with her violin, electronics and field recordings.Born in France and currently residing in Brussels, Roxane Métayer is a multidisciplinary artist. Learning the violin at a young age, she also developed herself as a visual artist, creating drawings, sculptures in uncommon materials as soap, and in recent years video. Her work as a musician is of an equally spontaneous nature. The violin is often taking the melodic lead, but at the same time serves a drone background.

Willam Parker has been a fiery and creative fountain of consistent improvisational brilliance. William Parker never disappoints and his solo performances are a luxury to all those fortunate enough to appreciate the gift of sound.
William Parker was born Bronx, New York City. He was not formally trained as a classical player, though he did study with Jimmy Garrison, Richard Davis, and Wilbur Ware and learned the tradition. Parker is one of few jazz bassists who regularly plays arco. He also plays several other instruments from around the world, including the West African kora.
While Parker has been active since the early 1970s; he has had a higher public profile since the early 1990s. William Parker first came to public attention with pianist Cecil Taylor. He has long been a member of saxophonist David S. Ware's quartet and in Peter Brötzmann' s groups. He is a member of the cooperative Other Dimensions In Music. Together with his wife organizes the annual Vision Festival in New York City.
Recorded by Etienne Foyer, 18th June 2014.

"The concert of David Rosenboom was a dream come true concert that was able to take place thanks to the collaboration of DePlayer, CafeOto and les ateliers claus. It became a memorable concert with a little stress beforehand as David Rosenboom got robbed on a train in Rotterdam hours prior to the concert in Brussels. The rest of the day we went looking for all the missing pieces of the puzzle in order to let David Rosenboom perform the concert the way he wanted to. Please check the notes of the night itself + per track David Rosenboom wrote the notes."
"This concert was presented at Les Ateliers Claus with a 6.2 sound system using unique, quasi-3D sound diffusion algorithms written by the composer-performer. The result was captured in multi-channel recordings that have been rendered here in stereo in a way that hopefully preserves at least hints of the original, immersive sound environment." "Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda came to perform les ateliers claus mid March 2015, which we remember very well. Our venue was made as empty as possible so the artists have a maximum amount of space to perform, but also the electricity was cut in all places where possible. Total silence and darkness was obtained for a maximum amount of intensity. The audience surrounded Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda - while they used the surroundings for their sounds.
Both Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda live at least one ocean away from les ateliers claus, but we consider them as a part of our home."---

"Native Instrument came to play les ateliers claus in October 2017. Their project is a sound collaboration bringing together the field recording archive of Felicity Mangan and the abstract vocabulary of Stine Janvin. Their music is built from electronic and vocal adaptations of animal and insect recordings originating mainly from the Australian and North European fauna. The organic mix of bug beats and atmospheric soundscapes uncover a sonic ambiguity between rural nature, electronics and the human voice, creating a peculiar, mellow insect techno."---Recorded and mastered by Christophe Albertijn.

"Le fruit vert (can) came to play les ateliers claus October 2017. That same night Eloïse Decazes (fr) & Eric Chenaux (can) also performed as a duo and made the line-up a tribute to the Swiss label Three:Four records.
Le fruit vert presented an aural paradise and meditations that hang in balance with every moment of silence. They take detailed care over every note and present a meditation on sound and feeling. The music of Le fruit vert exists in a gray area between anonymity and familiarity. It’s a technique that binds their music tightly to emotional vulnerability as they poke at the human condition, always with cheer and curiosity galore."

"Beatriz Ferreyra came to play les ateliers claus 25th September 2018. She presented 3 compostions on the acousmonium
Beatriz worked as a member of the Group of Musical Researches (G.R.M), under the leadership of Pierre Schaeffer, contributed to Pierre Schaeffer’s book « Traité des Objets Musicaux » participated to the records realisation from « Solfège de l’Objet Sonore » by Pierre Schaeffer. Since 1970 she is a free composer
1. Siesta Blanca (White Siesta) - 1972 - In Memoriam Astor PiazzollaFor Siesta Blanca I chose excerpts from Astor Piazzolla’s tangos and recorded sounds of an electronic organ. After transformation, these sounds could materialize the extreme sensation of cold and heat.
2. L'Autre ... ou le chant des marécages - 1987I was deeply impressed with Blaise Cendrars’s paradoxical personality, his terrifying « Double » which strips itself with an naked extreme and sadistic cruelty in his book « Moravagine, It was impossible for me not to record the depth of my feelings in a brutal and wild vocal composition
3. L’autre rive – 2007Inspired by the Bardo Todol (The tibetan book of death) this piece have been composed with percussions and some electroacoustic sounds."

"Sugai Ken came to perform at les ateliers claus early April 2018 to present his 5th studio album called UkabazUmerezU. The album title could be translated as 'slow and steady wins the race'. Sugai's reference for traditional folklore becomes an intimate, liminal ceremony of interpretative music and an invitation for the open mind to wander a wild nighttime with curious characters and strange, serene sounds."

"Bitchin Bajas came to play les ateliers claus May 2018. During this tour they were robbed twice, so the gear they're playing on at les ateliers claus is not their usual stuff. A mutated Bitchin Bajas.
Keep on flowing Bajas, so chill and pretty. Next-man expansions of the walls and bridges of our sonics universe, synthesizing amidst a separate but also growing ecosystem. Bitchin Bajas is a band formed by by Cooper Crain, Dan Quinlivan and Rob Frye."
