Mariachi

Mariachi is Nina Garcia solo project. Mariachi experiments in between improvised and noise music. The set up is ultra minimal : 1 guitar, 1 pedal, 1 amp. Everything is focused on the gesture and the sound research on the instrument : its resonances, limits, expansions, impurities, all the audibles parts of the guitar : to go with or against it, to contain or let it go, to support or hurt it. You'll probably find : feedbacks, cracklings, short circuits, impacts, harmonics, grindings noises, overflowings, notes and quasi perfect chord.

Dave Phillips

For his first appearance at Cafe OTO, Dave Phillips' video action offers an actionistic and physical performance accompanied by visuals. Loops and samples of voice and objects are played live over prepared sonic structures and follow a compositional narrative. Dave Phillips (dp) has been a purveyor of radical sound since the mid 80's. Working solo since 1987, he has developed a unique sonic language typified by sharp compositional techniques and strong environmentalist connotations. He is a member of the Schimpfluch-Gruppe.Phillips has been sonically active for over 25 years, has appeared on more than 190 releases and has played around 500 concerts in 40 countries.

Francisco Meirino

Meirino's works explore the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure. He is primarily interested in the idea of recording what is not supposed to be: gear failures, the death of PA systems, magnetic fields and electrostatic noises while transforming these soundscapes into challenging compositions. Francisco Meirino's music is fascinating by its physical intensity and detailed precision. He has played more than 200 live performances in various venues in Europe, Japan and North America. For his first UK's appearance, he will present a new piece based on his real time manipulation of his modular synthesizer, sharing with the audience his remarkable craft for experimental electronic music.
