Jiyoung Wi is a musician and fiction writer based in The Hague and Seoul. Her multidisciplinary practice explores narrative possibilities in non-image-based mediums. She has developed a series of ‘sound fiction’ works focusing on the tentative reciprocity between sound and text. As an improviser, she engages in acoustic phenomena as an arena where she dramatizes time perception. Within her untrained, risk-taking gestures, her self-punitive contemplation confronts the thresholds of sonic possessed rituals.
She has performed at prestigious venues including Volksbühne (Germany), Les Siestes Festival (France), The Grey Space in the Middle (Netherlands), Worm (Netherlands), Soto (Japan), and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (Belgium), among others. She has also contributed as a sound producer in exhibitions and performances held at the Sharjah Biennial (UAE), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon (KR), SeMA (KR), Ilmin Museum of Art (KR), Oil Tank Culture Park (KR), and Leeum Museum of Art (KR).
Nick Klein is an artist working in sound and art and sometimes (begrudgingly) sound art with a lean towards the social potential in those modalities as they interact. Klein has recorded a large amount of music for tape, CD, digital file, and vinyl editions for music labels around the world, as well as running his own amorphous label project PL (primitive languages, Psychic Liberation, etc). Concurrently, to the best of his ability, he has shown work in visual art contexts. Klein is uninterested in the prohibitive ideological tropes and circumstances that both contexts offer, and focuses the intent of his work on trying to see what productive energy comes from the friction between the two. Klein likes loud volume, cooking, offline community building, records, bars, synthesizers, and comedy.
Klein is currently located in Berlin. Klein has operated a monthly radio show on Montez Press Radio since its inception and is spending 2023-2024 developing a monthly invitational program at the Volksbühne Roter Salon. Klein has collaborated in various capacities and medial materializations with Wilted Woman, Audrey Chen, Das Ding, Hugo Esquinca, Jean-Louis Huhta, Erik Nystrand, Scant, Philip Maier, Makoto Oshiro and many more.
Klein has performed and shown works in contexts and festivals like The Amant Foundation (USA), SARA’S (USA), MOMA PS1 (USA), De La Cruz Collection (USA), Volksbühne (DE), Empty Gallery (HK), Berghain (DE), Tresor (DE), Seendosi (SK), Cafe Sismo (CDMX), Cafe Oto (UK), Folkteatern (SE), Burning Fleshtival (USA), Herrensauna (DE), and Summer Scum (USA).
Label founder, artist & writer Flora Yin Wong’s upcoming releases will be a second album on Modern Love, and via INA GRM following a residency for the Parisian institute's 48-channel diffusion system. Her debut album 'Holy Palm' was released on Modern Love and has featured on labels like PAN, Archaic Vaults, and Danse Noire and is currently working on remixes for Nyege Nyege Tapes and Animistic Beliefs. She has performed live at Atonal Berlin, Unsound and Semibreve Festivals, New York’s ISSUE Project Room, MACRO Roma, MUTEK in Peru, Buenos Aires, and Montreal, Volksbühne Theatre, SOTO Kyoto, The V&A Museum, Somerset House, The Jazz Cafe, and Cafe OTO, to clubs like Berghain, Printworks, Razzmatazz, WWWB Tokyo, and guested on shows for Rinse FM, NTS, Know Wave, The Lot Radio, and Boiler Room, with a trimestrial residency on LYL Radio.
Vancouver scene stalwart Venetta’s heady climactic style of dissociative sounds and far-reaching selections has seen her across dancefloors from Berghain’s Panorama Bar to De School Amsterdam, as well as high-velocity mixes for Resident Advisor, FACT and Crack Magazine. Growing up in an Ethiopian household opened a rich musical world early on for her, notably genres like Ethio-Jazz, folk, electronica, and dub, and traditional music – a stylistic blueprint that Venetta draws on frequently in her sets today, alongside a nod to her fascination with psychological thrillers and their soundtracks. For Doyenne and her OTO debut, she’ll be doing a rare live set diving deep into her psyche and unique musical vision.
