KASAI

Born in Chiba, before later moving to Takatsuki City (Osaka), and then to Kyoto, Daisuke Iijima has been making music since 2010. He has been experimenting with ancient folk styles since 2015, before discovering footwork and juke. On Chinabot, he released the albums OWN °C in 2021, J/P/N in 2023 and Iori-ten (〽) in 2025

"Often a clap, shuffle or bong comes out of nowhere and settles into its own groove that’s just about out of whack with most of the rest of the tune. Either that or they’re all just totally off the beat. Whatever the tactic, we are definitely off the grid here. It means the productions have this curious idiosyncratic sort of animism, where each ping, ding or shuffle seem to be coming from sentient players trying to keep up and failing. It’s wonderfully naive, a tiny bit daft and incredibly likeable. Hands down the friendliest record in this edition of Rum Music." Jennifer Lucy Allan (The Quietus)

"Daisuke found his way on his Chinabot debut, OWN ℃, adding footwork sounds and techniques to min’yō rhythms. The music is a little slower and less frenetic than classic footwork, but it retains the style’s complex rhythms. And most importantly, it’s just as exhilarating" Michal Wieczorek (Daily Bandcamp)

“lijima’s productions pop with detail - the low frequencies are given to booming taiko drums, while the upper register of tracks like “Chidori Ashi” vibrate with a bright palette of woodblocks, tinny horns and synthesized strings... OWN ‘C is easy to love, shot through with a joyful energy and sense of play.” Louis Pattison (The Wire)

NEO GEODESIA

Neo Geodesia is the recording name of Saphy Vong (born 1982), an experimental electronic music producer and composer born to Cambodian parents, raised in Nancy, France, and currently based in Brighton, UK. He is known for creating intricate electronic music that is characterised by its emphasis on melody and hypnotic pacing, conceptually stylised structures and extreme use of audio processing techniques.
