Phenomenal, preternatural solo set from Melbourne-based writer, musician and designer, Matthew Revert, recorded at Cafe OTO in April 2025.

Performing as part of a heady lineup alongside longtime collaborator, Vanessa Rossetto and Tom Betteridge, Revert conjures an eerie, crepuscular atmosphere halfway between the Brothers Quay and The Black Lodge, layering up looped chimes and tones, shimmering scrapes and scratches, twittering electronics and low, discordant hums, which all tumble together with a ceaseless momentum.

Through it all a muffled voice provides a through-line, with repeated phrases that stumble and cycle back on themselves with hypnotic insistence. References to things both mundane and profound emerge from the murk, with the nagging potency of a half-remembered dream.

The cumulative effect is at once disorientating and uncanny in its specificity, leaving you under the distinct impression that this message is being addressed directly to you; that it would, in fact, hold great meaning to you alone, if only you could remember how you got here.
