Vase de Noces (Wedding Trough)

Alain Pierre

The first-ever release of Alain Pierre's original soundtrack for the 1974 cult film Vase de Noces, directed by Thierry Zeno, is now available. This Belgian film, despite its unique production, was never officially released in Belgium. Like works by Bergman or Polanski, it found limited distribution through "Swedish distribution" channels, typically associated with adult cinema. Alain Pierre's approach to sound for Vase de Noces was unconventional. He salvaged magnetic tape from his workplace and created an atmospheric score using rudimentary techniques. The film's soundtrack is entirely dubbed, with no direct sound - a creative choice that blended seamlessly with the dark, avant-garde nature of Zeno's project. Pierre's inventive manipulation of sounds, including bottles and slowed-down Monteverdi music, gave the film an eerie, haunting feel. The collaboration between Pierre and Zeno was marked by deep trust and shared artistic vision, leading to a soundtrack that feels as raw and unsettling as the film itself. This release pays tribute to Pierre's legacy, beautifully packaged in a screen-printed sleeve.
