Two day residency from S.L.Á.T.U.R. – an artistically obtrusive composer collective centered in Reykjavík, Iceland. Since 2005 its members have been working on various types of experiments. These include animated notation using computer graphics, interactivity, various experiments with sounds and tunings, performance art and the development of limited and isolated musical universes. The members share ideas and methods freely while the final products are usually independent efforts.

DAY ONE – OTO Project Space
S.L.Á.T.U.R. & Tea
Introduction, music, notation, warm drink, performance, chat, demonstration, friendly visit, sheep stomach, found object, cold drink, modernist, video projector, white noise, vegetables, culture design, goose call.

DAY TWO – Cafe OTO
S.L.Á.T.U.R. Concert
Concert with new and old compositions by SLÁTUR members, Áki frá Garði, Hlynur Aðils Vilmarsson, Ingi Garðar Erlendsson, Magnús í Gjörvidal, Páll Ivan frá Eiðum and Þorkell Atlason. The performance includes music using animated notation, found objects as musical instruments, video projections and audience participation.

Þorkell Atlason

Þorkell Atlason is a Rotterdam School composer currently residing in Iceland. He studied with, amongst others, Atli Heimir Sveinsson in Reykjavik and with Klaas de Vries and Rene Uijlenhoet at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Although he also wrote instrumental music, he is known to be a specialist in using electronic means, especially concerning his works fully composed using CSound. Atlason is currently working in Reykjavík both as a composer and a teacher.

Áki Ásgeirsson

Áki Ásgeirsson is a composer and musician who was born in 1975 in Keflavík, Iceland. He studied at the Keflavík Music School, the Reykjavík College of Musicand the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands and currently lives in Reykjavík. He has written instrumental music and music for instruments and computer.

His music has been performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and musicians such as Michael Manion and the Norwegian POING ensemble. His music has been performed in China, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, The Netherlands, Germany and various places in the United States of America.

Áki has been active as a trumpet player, mostly with experimental improvisation ensembles. He developed the SensorTrumpet, an electronic trumpet with add-on's to interact with a computer.

Hlynur Aðils Vilmarsson

Studied composition at Reykjavík College of Music and electronic music at Kópavogur School of Music from 1997 to 2000. He has in recent years attended masterclasses with Brian Ferneyhough among many others and has also been studying computer engineering at University of Iceland. His music has been played in USA, Asia and Europe by groups like kammarensamblen, Njuton Ensemble and Uusinta Chamber Ensemble among others. Hlynur is co-founder of Reykjavik Media Lab and is active in composer group S.L.Á.T.U.R.

Ingi Garðar Erlendsson

Ingi Garðar Erlendsson (b. 1980) studied composition with the composers Yannis Kyriakides and Gilius van Bergeijk at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, from 2007-2009. His works have been performed at various places on various occasions worldwide.

Ingi Garðar is a member of the composers collective S.L.Á.T.U.R (Society of artistically obtrusive composers around Reykjavík) and performs with groups such as Hestbak, Borko, Fengjastrútur, Benni Hemm Hemm, Skeylja, Valdimar, Kippi Kanínus, Stórsveit Nix Noltes and many more. Currently residing in Reykjavík with his girlfriend Vala and their three children, Ísold Anna, Frosti Pétur and Jökull Ingi.

Páll Ivan frá Eiðum

Páll Ivan frá Eiðum is an active composer, musician and artist.  He is not going to die before everything has been tried and a total understanding of everything has been achieved.

Páll Ivan’s works have been performed in Europe and the United states, festivals such as the Reykjavík Arts festival, Nordic music days, Dark music days, Tectonics, Sláturtíð, Raflost, Icelandic music days in the Netherlands and Ung Nordisk Musik. Páll Ivan is a founding member of the SLÁTUR composers collective.

Magnús Jensson

Magnús was born in Reykjavík in 1972, he graduated from the Aarhus school of Architecture in 2004 and has since 2006 run his own architect studio. Magnus has given numerous lectures on sustainable architecture, residential housing, urban planning and classical geometry, and has taught at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and taken part in various committee work for the Architects’ Association of Iceland. Magnús has also studied visual arts and music and his music has been performed in various places around the world.
