Quartet in the Face of Adversity: Trevor Watts, Veryan Weston, Luc Ex & Tony Buck

No Longer Available

Quartet in the Face of Adversity Featuring:

Trevor Watts, (Alto and soprano saxophones)

Veryan Weston (piano)

Luc Ex (acoustic bass guitar)

Tony Buck (drums)

This is a pairing of duos that make a new quartet. Trevor and Veryan spent 10 years together working in Trevor’s project - Moiré Music. Most recently they have played duets in UK and Italy and have made two recordings for EMANEM records.

'Complex but lyrical, Trevor Watts and Veryan Weston's music is the kind of listening that easily transcends any boundary and/or genre” MASSIMO RICCI –Touching Extremes - 2002

“The duo provides a comprehensive glimpse of what can happen, when two giants of the improv scene coalesce. The musicians' intuitive responses and on-the-fly excursions span a wide-ranging spectrum of styles and fabrics of sound”. GLENN ASTARITA – All About Jazz – 2002

Luc Ex and Tony Buck worked a lot in various projects (including Roof) during the 80 and 90s because of both living in Amsterdam. Luc’s punky (having co-founded the Ex) and punchy approach to his instrument is perfectly suited to a drummer who has worked in a multitude of diverse projects worldwide, perhaps most notably in the trio with the Necks.

This will be the first time the group has played together…..anything might happen!

Duo for strings with Amanda Drummond (Viola) and Hannah Marshall (Cello)

This is another premier occasion for two players who know each other well and share a good empathy but with a host of very disparate and diverse interests. Hannah has been working in various theatre and vocal projects most recently as well as becoming very much part of the London improvised music scene. Mandy has been spotted most recently on the BBC backing Sir Tom Jones latest recording project, as well as taking part in the new F-ire concert at Kings Place. How wondrous improvised music is in bringing musicians so different together!
