Multipletap presents a mouthwatering and essential line-up of musicians and artists from Japan's fervent and chaotic music scene that includes traditional, experimental, and extreme avant-garde music. A variety of musicians/artists from different genres/artforms - some of them not even recognised usually as music - will be showcased at this special event. From noise, avant-garde to traditional gagaku or gidayu-shamisen, some intense and unique artists among current Japanese culture have been selected. The aim is to share an essence of the ongoing Japanese music culture and create a path for feedback towards the rest of the world that will become a powerful fuel for the development of future music in Japan.

DORAVIDEO
Doravideo is the solo project of Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, born in 1959 in Yamaguchi prefecture, 1000 km away from Tokyo. The project mixes music and video. Attached to a set of drums, sensors transmit a different message to the computer according to which piece is hit : for example, the big drum will play a video, the snare drum will play it backwards with the cymbals fast-forwarding it, etc... The audience hear both the sound of the drums and the original film soundtrack directly reworked using techniques some of which are inherited from hip hop.
HIJOKAIDAN
Hijokaidan was formed by Jojo Hiroshige and Naoki Zushi in 1979 in Kyoto, and it is considered the first noise band in Japan and perhaps in the world. They have played full volume improvisational noise for more than 25 years, and have become well known in the world as "King of Noise".
T.MIKAWA
T.Mikawa is the founding member of The Incapacitants. Their original base of activity was Osaka, where Mikawa collaborated with Yamatsuka Eye and others. Later, after the move to Tokyo, Fumio Kosakai became a member, to form the current duo. From the beginning, while the attempt to achieve pure noise has been the most important aspect of their sound, they have also been famous for their stage performances, which are so wild they may remind people of pro wrestling matches.
TOSHIMARU NAKAMURA
Toshimaru Nakamura has been producing electronic music on self-named "no-input mixing board," after long unhappy years with the electric guitar. The name describes the method of his music. "No" external sound source is connected to "inputs" of the "mixing board." Mostly an improviser, occasionally a composer for dancers, an instrumentalist for compositions.
JOJO HIROSHIGE
Jojo Hiroshige was born in Kyoto in 1959. He formed the improvisational punk unit, Ultra Bide in 1978, and Hijokaidan in 1979. Radical live noise performances made Hijokaidan well-known in the world as one of the oldest noise bands.
JUNKO
Junko is the solo nome de plume for Junko Hiroshige. She is vocalist/ instrumentalist and one of the founding members of the seminal Japanese Noise band Hijokaidan, which in the late '70s gave rise to liminal and destructive performances. She has a voice of great intensity. Her solo vocal performances are incredibly musical and harrowing confrontations with the very real, physical and aural trauma of a woman screaming.
HATSUNE KAIDAN
Hijokaidan feat. Hatsune Miku - Hatsune Miku is a singing synthesizer application with a humanoid persona, developed by Crypton Future Media. It uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2 and Vocaloid 3 synthesizing technology. The name of the character comes from merging the Japanese words for first (Hatsu), sound (ne) and future (Miku), referring to her position as the first of Crypton's "Character Vocal Series".
MAKOTO KAWABATA
Guitarist, violinist, performer on numerous traditional instruments, composer, Leader of the Acid Mothers Temple.
TETSUZI AKIYAMA
Tetuzi Akiyama plays the guitar with primitive and practical implications, by adding a desire of own to the instrument's characteristic nature in minimal and straight method. Besides making variety of solo albums, he has made many albums in collaboration with highly praised artists such as Jozef Van Wissem, Donald McPherson, Greg Malcolm, Bruce Russell, Gunter Muller, Jason Kahn, Michel Henritzi, Phantom Limb, Gul3, Tim Barnes, Oren Ambarchi, Martin Ng and Alan Licht, just to name a few.
ATSUHIRO ITO
Atsuhiro Ito was born in 1965. He launched his career as a visual artist in the late '80s, and in '98 began presenting sound performances at art exhibitions and so on. Ito made use of fluorescent lighting (which is also an element of his art installations) in the creation of an original musical device called the optron. He continues to refine the instrument while approaching sound and music from a contemporary-art-based perspective.
TANAKA YUMIKO
Tanaka received an MA in aesthetics and art history from Tokyo University of the Arts. She studied Gidayu recitation with Gidayu recitation artist and Living National Treasure Komanosuke Takemoto, and became a disciple of the Gidayu-shamisen master, the late Kinshi Nozawa who was also a living national treasure in Bunraku Puppet Theater. Since her debut performance in 1981 in Tokyo, Tanaka has been very active as a Shamisen player and vocalist, not only in the world of traditional Japanese music, but also in contemporary music, new music, and various styles of theater. In 2009, she became the general holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property as a member of Gidayu-bushi Preservation Society.
MIHO WAKABAYASHI
Miho Wakabayashi is a strip artist who belongs to the "Asakusa Rock-ZA". She is involved in various activities as an actress, a model, and a multi-performer.
KO ISHIKAWA
Ko Ishikawa studied Japanese traditional "Gagaku" music under Mayumi Miyata, Hideaki Bunno and Sukeyasu Shiba. He has been playing Sho, small bamboo organ, not only in Gagaku music but also in contemporary and experimental music.
MAKOTO OSHIRO
Makoto Oshiro graduated from the Musicology Department, Osaka University of Arts. For live performances, he uses instruments and implements for playing and composing, which he makes by combining electronic devices, junk, and everyday materials. He also creates installation works using sound, light, and movement.
PAINJERK
PAINJERK is one-man sonic army runs by Kohei Gomi (b.1963). Gomi began home-recordings of the experiment of the sound in the mid-80s. He mixed influence of the punk art and influence of method of psychosomatic surrealist. The recorded / performed work does not have each with the independent meanings and is the pieces of assemblage. And it is also the pieces produced by obsession. PAINJERK is one of the more prolific and influential sound artists of the 90s, and is one of the leading figures in the brutal style as electro-acoustic outsider.
TAKAHIRO KAWAGUCHI
In 2000, Kawaguchi started thinking about field recordings. His interest lies not in the kind of field recordings that focus on sound tones obtained in the field, but on the configuration of sound in a specific space. He creates recorded works using sound-making objects, presents installations, and is active in the field of improvised music.
KATSURA MOURI
Katsura Mouri is a member of 'BusRatch'. Originally a quartet formed around Parallax record shop in Kyoto, Japan, the unit began performing in 1998 using 8 turntables, building improvised pieces with records, various metals, cymbals, mousepads and other materials. BusRatch became chiefly known as the duo of Takahiro Yamamoto and Katsura Mouri until they disbanded in 2009.

Kou Katsuyoshi is a Korean, who was born in Tokyo, 1983.
KEN IKEDA
Ken Ikeda is a sound artist and composer born in Tokyo (1964), currently a resident in New York and London. He has been playing SD404(string decoder), an original primitive instrument made by nails and rubber bands, reconfirming the relation between body and instrument. He has previously collaborated with contemporary artists Mariko Mori, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Tadanori Yokoo.
