Momus presents: "An Evening With Dybbuk Momie" - A Cabaret Featuring the Songs of David Bowie

No Longer Available

In an affectionate act of tribute to his greatest songwriting heroes and influences, Momus is presenting an exceptional mini-residency at Cafe Oto this autumn in which he devotes two consecutive evenings to the songs of Howard Devoto and David Bowie.

At the Saturday night show Momus will appear as "Dybbuk Momie", singing a very eclectic and personal selection of his favourite material from David Bowie's discography.

David Bowie is the cultural figure without whom Momus simply wouldn't have existed: a genius, a massively liberating presence producing prolifically throughout five decades, an enthusiastic index of cultural connections, a sort of internet-before-the-internet. Like the dybbuk of Jewish mythology, Bowie is a sum of stolen souls, a collection of all the most impressive gestures, impressions, and talents of cultural figures he's encountered and been smitten by.

Unlike Devoto, Bowie isn't under-celebrated; we've seen the documentaries, read the books, toured the exhibitions, and attended tribute shows featuring ex-Spiders. At some distance from all this cultural noise, "Dybbuk Momie" will present an unashamedly dark and leftfield take on Bowie, concentrating on the early cabaret work, the demos, the whispery readings of Brecht, the avant-garde and eccentric moments, the symphonic poems. Songs Bowie has never performed live himself will be unfurled bravely by Momus in unexpected yet faithful new readings, accompanied by appropriate (and surprising) video projections.

This show promises to be an unforgettable experience for fans of both Bowie and Momus. Book early; tickets will fairly fly.

NB: No other acts performing. Momus on from 9pm.

A veteran of British indie labels, Momus is currently in the midst of a re-release program which will see all his early material reissued by Cherry Red. His latest LP of new compositions is Scobberlotchers — a response to Brexit and Trump — and his latest novel is Popppappp, the tale of two graphic designers captured by fanatical followers of Mark E. Smith.
