FIMBER BRAVO
Hailing from Trinidad, award winning steel pan maestro Fimber Bravo is a phenomenon. Bravo was one of the founder members of the 20th Century Steel Band, whose record “Heaven & Hell” became a hip-hop touch stone, referenced by Doug E Fresh, Soul II Soul, J-Lo and many more amongst the hip hop fraternity. A collaborator with Hot Chip, Fimber Bravo is one of the most influential exponents of the steel drum in contemporary music.
For his new album Con-Fusion, Fimber has called upon a stellar cast of production collaborators; Hot Chip, Tom Hopkins, Jonnie Wilkes & James Savage from Optimo/Naum Gabo, Zongamin and Mickey Moonlight. The lead single Life After Doomsday – co-written and co-produced by Zongamin – is typical of the album’s fusion of contemporary production and Fimber’s life affirming music.
His solo album is released on Moshi Moshi Records, one of the UK’s leading tastemaker labels, and was an immediate favourite of label boss Stephen Bass: “Alexis Taylor sent me a link to the album to have a listen to. I put it on in the background as I was pottering around at home. The first track that came on was Life After Doomsday and it pretty much stopped my pottering in its tracks – it was actually one of those rare occasions that I had never heard anything like it, I can remember having to go back and check to make sure that it was the right thing, it was just instantly so different and exciting sounding and it still sounds as fresh today as it did then”
Internationally renowned Bravo has loaned his talents to an astonishing array of artists, from Winifred Atwell right through to Sun Ra Arkestra, Morcheeba, Hot Chip, Zongamin and Mickey Moonlight. He was also a Musical Director of Steel n’ Skin, who’s music was recently re-issued by EM Records (Japan) and Honest Jons (UK).
