BRETHREN OF THE FREE SPIRIT

James and Jozef headline with a duo set comprising of material from their recent LP with audioMER and more besides.

JAMES BLACKSHAW

Consisting of mainly solo 12-string acoustic guitar, played in a finger-picked style not too dissimilar to Robbie Basho, perhaps Blackshaw's biggest inspiration, James Blackshaw has devised new tunings and new techniques. Blackshaw traverses between Eastern and Western scales; simple and incredibly intricate picking patterns; waves of fast, powerful rolls and glass-fragile harmonics. Released on Important Records and Bo Weavil.

JOZEF VAN WISSEM

Jozef Van Wissem is bringing the lute into a contemprary context with great success. Last year's album, 'Stations of the Cross' is an incredible testament to the hypnotic dexterity of the rarely-explored intrument. Has collaborated with Tetuzi Akiyama, Gary Lucas and has an incredible new joint recording with James Blackshaw, 'Brethren of the Free Spirit', out on Belgian imprint audioMER.
