Glasgow's Greater Lanarkshire Auricular Research Council, or GLARC for short, have been producing rigorous cassette-based periodicals for 10 years now. Acting as a springboard for the dazzling academic careers of enumerable luminaries, they pride themselves on producing high impact globally distributed research output. As part of their anniversary they have organised a couple of plenary showcases in Glasgow and they are also coming to London with seasoned and promising new scholars:

Lene Otis Finn

Lene Otis Finn

Lene Otis Finn - Lene de Montaigu, Otis Jordan and Finn Rosenbaum are a trio of musicians who met in Glasgow and performed throughout its outdoor spaces and with its scrapheap of found objects. They captured their improvisations and collaborative pieces on GLARC 0000000000000023 before parting ways and moving to different cities. The tape interweaves the sounds of Finn’s own bells, which he forged in Cessnock behind an abandoned swimming pool, with found objects and various instruments such as harmonium, french horn, clarinet and analogue synthesizer. They went quiescent for a bit, and are excited to re-emerge at Oto.

Max Syedtollan

Max Syedtollan

Max Syedtollan - Through his first 3 releases on GLARC (GLARC 0000000000000002, GLARC 0000000000000008, GLARC 0000000000000011) Max developed a unique and thrillingly unpredictable audio carnivalesque which has continued to blossom at labels such as 33-33, Bison and his own World Service. Indeed, his latest compositions have been described as verging on evil, with works "calculated to cause maximum offence". He frequently combines music with text, video and performance and he showcased this most recently on Prynhawn Da!, a collaboration with basket-maker Lewis Prosser to soundtrack a mummer's procession through the streets of Swansea, Cardiff and Caernarfon.

Han

Han

Han - Han is a part-time noisemaker, part-time healthcare worker, part-time runner of the inimitable Events Research Programme institution (a monthly subscription-based events series), part-time recipient of the title of Scotland's “most successful cash-in-hand DJ”. She lives in Glasgow. With her first release, GLARC 00000000000000000000000000000016, she materialised the audio output of a fictitious institute of ecoterrorism with its unearthly hold music and cautionary reminders to make time to lie flat. Since then she has released a fantastically sludgy mixtape of original work on Trilogy Tapes alongside a slew of singles across various cassette compilations. Catch her in London before she goes off and travels the world.

Sholto Dobie

Sholto Dobie

Sholto Dobie - Sholto Dobie was born in Edinburgh and lives in Vilnius. He regularly performs in events, using loose structures, site specific methodologies and an array of sound sources including home-made organs and bagpipes. Over the years, he has explored ideas related to folklore, environment and a sonic phenomenon. He is based in Vilnius where he co-organises the artist run space Studium P and curates a regular event and radio series for local and international experimental music called Progine. He has releases everywhere, with music on labels such as Mappa, All Night Flight, Kashual Plastik, Infant Tree, Takuroku, Penultimate Press and Thanet Tape Centre. A release with GLARC is planned this year (GLARC 0000000000000000000000000YETTOBEDETERMINED)
