A night exploring documentary filmmaking and alternative music through the UK premier of two of Dutch director David Kleijwegt’s films.

The Eternal Children (2006) looks into a group of musicians - prototypical exponents of the Freakfolk movement including Devandra Banhart, Anthony &

the Johnsons, Vashti Bunyan and CocoRosie. A touching and passionate portrait of artists who share and extol a common spirituality and lyrical understanding of the world. Capturing the owners of one of the truly original art movements of recent years, this is a window into the world of a hopeful generation who live with ‘with their eyes wide-open,’ and have shifted away from the rage and depression of early 90s, as Anthony Hegarty remarks.

In Low: You May Need A Murderer, a film crew followed Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker, husband & wife members of the seminal quiet-core band Low. A candid portrait of the band on tour, at home in Duluth, Minnesota, in their Mormon church community, and as parents. It’s more than an on-the-road or behind-the-scenes video. It shows Sparhawk as the ambivalent main character in an intriguing movie about religion, violence, conscience, and madness. It can also be seen as a touching love story. A clear and unabridged rockumentary lifted up above the conventions of the genre.

Presented as a double-bill the films will be followed by a Q&A session with David Kleijwegt.
