Xaviers + Blue On Blue + Daniel Blumberg/Kohhei Matsuda

No Longer Available

Bo Ningen side project Xaviers pound out a barbaric yet completely euphoric take on psych-synth freak out. Having just come back from a tour supporting Wire this will be their first show at OTO. Support comes from Blue On Blue - the musical partnership of Dee Sada and Billy Steiger. Using a wide range of instruments, both acoustic and electronic; and stripped-back arrangements, the duo explore themes of insecurity, loss and madness. Also on the bill the very first performance by the new collaboration between Daniel Blumberg, the former frontman of London based band Yuck and Bo Ningen's guitarist Kohhei Matsuda.

XAVIERS

London experimental improvisation three-piece Xaviers, comprising Yuki Tsujii and Akihide 'Mon-Chan' Mona of Bo Ningen and visual artist and synth player Kenichi Iwasa. Pounding out a barbaric yet completely euphoric take on psych-synth freak out, they have no prepared licks, which results in cosmically energised gigs that graft out and nurture their own very special imploding orbit.

They have just came back from a tour supporting Wire and released recordings of their work, having previously only performing live. However, they were doing so with a caveat: to preserve some of the ephemerality of their music, they recorded each night's show, before mastering it on the move and then, the day after, uploading it to their SoundCloud, where it was available to stream and download for free, but solely for the duration of that day.

Although it sometimes centres around overtly motorik or noise directions, their sound finds the band firmly on experimental form, opening with a spacious soundscape focalised around Iwasa's synth before moving into more freeform territory, with Tsujii's mutated guitar tones caught by the undertow of Mon-Chan's trademark frenetic drumming, ramping up to a furious, driving final third.

BLUE ON BLUE

Blue On Blue is the musical partnership of Dee Sada and Billy Steiger. Using a wide range of instruments, both acoustic and electronic; and stripped-back arrangements, the duo explore themes of insecurity, loss and madness. Sada's, often confessional, lyrics form the spiritual core of their music, which is orbited by an atmosphere of loosely woven melodies and liminal sounds. A determinedly DIY approach to their music has led the pair to produce all of their records in a self-built studio with minimal external input; most recently a split 12" EP with Floridian synth psychonauts, Os Ovni.

Blue On Blue have also become known for their intensely intimate, and occasionally confrontational live shows, and this marks their debut at Cafe Oto.

DANIEL BLUMBERG + KOHHEI MATSUDA

Very first performance by the new collaboration between Daniel Blumberg, the former frontman of London based band Yuck and BO NINGEN's guitarist Kohhei Matsuda.

Manipulating different speed/density of sound, they will present remarkably time/space-altering experience.
