THE HOTEL PRESENTS... STAN BRAKHAGE + HENRY CYER + EXCEL DJ

£16 £14 Advance £10 MEMBERS

For its first evening at Cafe OTO, The Hotel presents a diverse line-up of three singular artists with a shared intuition towards the ineffable.

As first act to the evening, The Hotel will host a rare 16mm projection of Stan Brakhage's late masterpiece 'Passage Through: A Ritual’.

One of the most delicate works of art ever made, Passage Through is rarely screened in the world (if at all), and shall be projected as an original 16mm print.

The evening will follow with a live appearance by Henry Cyer, and a closing live set by excel dj.

Please note: venue will be extremely dark upon arrival. For any accessibility needs please email info@the-hotel.org in advance.

Stan Brakhage

Stan Brakhage is widely regarded as the most influential avant-garde filmmaker of all time.

His expansive body of work of near-400 films is notorious for its ambition, innovation and variety of techniques, including in-camera editing, multiple exposure, collage, scratching, and painting directly onto celluloid.

Inspired by music, poetry, and visual phenomena, Brakhage sought to reveal the universal, with a keen focus on the themes of “birth, sex, death, and the search for God”.

Henry Cyer

Henry Cyer is an artist based in London.

His musical work explores forms of otherness within the performer; taking cues from literary techniques, architecture and avant-garde composition to craft and collapse his own distinct song form.

His live appearances use dimly lit space to immerse the viewer in an intense sonic experience, equally scenic and emotive, as a means towards a shared transcendence.

His film works explore the essence of place and the camera as impersonal subject. See: henrycyer.net

EXCEL DJ

in this "excel dj" artist bio, we find the sun pale and waning at the state of the art. in the long histories of this world many of us call home, in another cycle, we now doubt the larger meaning (again) and look inward to only find a map to guide the self and no other. this state is lost. but this magic is still real. and this dream is real and i'm not real, and englxsh as nothing. music is exciting and lets us bleed higher. new dreaming with everyone

excel dj estas post-reala artisto se tio plaĉas al vi. ri havas eldonojn ĉe glint music, bandcamp, nina, ktp
