School Of Hypnosis Presents In C by Terry Riley – MATINEE

No Longer Available

Please note that this is a matinee event – doors will open at 2pm and the performance will start shortly after.

In its first outing since 2016, East London minimalist music collective School of Hypnosis is gathering once more to play its inaugural piece, In C, by Terry Riley. Formed of an ever-evolving cast of local musicians and fly-in friends, the group started life in London living rooms, experimenting with existing minimalist repertoire and new compositions. In 2015 they wrote and performed Sonic Tides for Doug Aitkin’s Station to Station at the Barbican.

Riley’s classic piece is a pulsating and mesmeric musical evolution over an hour or more. As thirty performers move chronologically through a series of looped parts, serendipitous harmonisations and counterpoint evolve and evanesce. Expect an immersive musical experience as performers spill off the stage and into the room.

All proceeds from this event will go to the Pie Factory, which is a charity set up to provide free accessible music and related arts workshops for young people across East Kent. More info here:
