Rashad Becker is a Syrian-German composer, musician and mastering engineer based in Berlin. For more than three decades he has worked across an enormous range of musical cultures, from studios and clubs to experimental music, fine art, film and theatre, contributing to thousands of productions alongside developing a singular body of work of his own.

Becker’s compositions occupy an idiosyncratic space within contemporary synthetic music, unfolding as densely populated sonic narratives in which individual sounds behave almost like characters: interacting, competing, yielding and shifting in relation to one another. His work often sits somewhere between the plausible and the uncanny, drawing familiar musical gestures into strange, tragic-comical and sometimes surreal forms. At the centre of the practice is an interest in sound as a means of transferring experience, and in music as a social and relational form.

His releases include the two volumes of Traditional Music of Notional Species on PAN, alongside the multi-part project Based on a True Story, which develops scores from historical occurrences through a form of sonic staging. In April 2025 he released The Incident, his first full-length solo album in almost a decade and the inaugural release on his own Clunk label. Conceived as a labyrinthine, narrative-driven “pseudo musical”, the record moves through ideas of information, representation, witnessing and documentation, and acts as a precursor to further works in the Based on a True Story series.

Recent live performances unfold as deeply physical, densely populated and spatially disorienting environments, extending Becker’s distinctive approach to sound-sculpting into a continually shifting live form.
