A new duo with theremin virtuoso Pamelia Kurstin and award-winning composer, pianist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Pete Drungle. This will be their premier live performance together.

Pamelia has created a new, much needed take on the theremin, freeing it from sci-fi nerds and the cheap gimmick approach. She has brought a level of creativity to it that has not been seen before & her improvisations expand and contract to build into a remarkable experience. Bob Moog himself regarded her as the best theremin player he'd seen.

"About ten years ago, I saw that documentary by Steven martin about the theremin and from that point on became hooked on it. My career began as a thereminist when I was playing bass with this band called Geggy Tah in Los Angeles. shortly after I picked it up, by chance I met Steven martin, who made the theremin film, and after he heard me he introduced me to Clara Rockmore and Bob Moog. The theremin orchestra has as many as 16 different parts, I record them all one at a time, or I use looping pedals and perform/record/playback all of the parts live when I perform solo.” - Pamelia Kurstin

Pete Drungle (b. 1972 Chicago, Il.) is an award-winning composer, pianist, multi-instrumentalist and producer, who lives and works in NYC. Drungle has played in a variety of settings with many legendary musicians - including Ornette Coleman, Al Mac Dowell, Craig Harris, Ronald Shannon Jackson, The Kronos Quartet, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Yoko Ono, Yuka Honda, Pamelia Kurstin, Cheik M’Baye, Doyle Bramhall, Avery Brooks, and many others. Drungle is an intrepid, adventurous improviser - which is possibly best exemplified by his 24-HOUR CONTINUOUS SOLO PIANO IMPROVISATION, presented at Sculpture Center, New York (as part of PERFORMA 07), Drungle’s first public performance of this piece in which he played for 24 straight hours (save for 3 short breaks totaling 12 minutes). WIRE magazine reviewer Alan Licht remarked, "...In as much as free improvisation can be a real-time, stream of consciousness expression, Drungle's epic event pushed it well beyond the limits usually imposed by the customary concert timetable; that he was still functioning at a high level of creativity after 23 hours pays new testimony to the improvisational mindset. Drungle contributed the truest experiment in concert as performance art that PERFORMA 07 had to offer." As a composer, Drungle has created scores for theater, television and film, and has collaborated on several works for dance, including Sarah Michelson’s DOVER BEACH, Michael Portnoy’s THE ‘K’ SOUND, and Susan Vencl’s 2X4. Recent accolades include a Meet The Composer Commissioning Music/USA commission, an American Music Center live music for dance grant, a Bessie Award for Best Composer, and composer residencies at U-Cross Wyoming and Chapter Arts, Cardiff Wales. He is currently working on a system of music based on algorithms derived from the human genome, and researching the possibilities of music performance in zero-gravity environments.
