Robyn's Rocket, the innovative inclusive conscious gig series resident at Cafe OTO, is set to host its largest show yet at the iconic London nightclub, Fabric, on Tuesday, 14th May. The event will feature a wide-ranging line-up, headlined by extra-terrestrial psych rockers HENGE, with support from multi-award-winning composer and turntablist Mariam Rezaei performing with series founder and ‘space trumpeter’ Robyn Rocket, multi-disciplinary artist D.M.S. and live visuals from Rucksack Cinema.
HENGE, who bring "music from distant planets," have captivated audiences across the UK and Europe for over a decade. Recognised as 'Best Live Act' at the Independent Festival Awards, their electrifying live performances bridge the gap between rave and progressive rock. Their latest album, Journey to Voltus B, received acclaim from BBC 6 Music tastemakers, including Stuart Maconie and Craig Charles, cementing their reputation for energetic, subversive, and invigoratingly playful sound.
Joining the line-up and performing with Robyn herself is turntablist Mariam Rezaei, described by The Wire as "one of the most technically adept and creatively daring artists to use the turntable as a musical instrument." Working across experimental new music, free improvisation, and mutant club musics, Rezaei's work is praised as "genuinely ground-breaking" (London Jazz News 2022) and "high-velocity sonic surrealism" (The Guardian 2022). Her latest release, FRACTURED (Heat Crimes), was named one of The Quietus’ and The Wire’s albums of 2024.
And the lineup is completed with a set from visual artist, singer-songwriter and emerging DJ D.M.S., and live visuals from Robyn’s frequent collaborators Rucksack Cinema.
Founded by Autistic musician and visual artist Robyn Steward, who plays trumpet through guitar pedals (aka the “Space Trumpet”), Robyn’s Rocket operates on an 'inclusive conscious' philosophy: looking at who is not in a space, inviting them in, asking for feedback, and implementing that feedback.
"Robyn is doing brilliant and important work - the world needs more music like this. Just one word: listen!" says Giles Peterson.
This unique evening promises to be a celebratory moment that shines a spotlight on accessibility in music, showcasing incredible talent while upholding the core mission of radical inclusion and shared space for all music lovers.
Presented in association with Cafe OTO, Ensemble Music, and Heart n Soul, with support from Arts Council England.
