JOLT and The Click Clack Project present The NIS (Amplified Elephants / BOLT Ensemble) + John Wall + Ben Harper

No Longer Available

JOLT Sonic Arts presents an immersive multimedia experience performed by the Amplified Elephants and the BOLT Ensemble, directed by James Hullick. This cutting edge sonic media experience employs electro-acoustic sound, interactive screen projections, robotic machines and video. Central to this project is the collaboration between the Amplified Elephants (professional sound artists with a disability), and one of Australia's finest contemporary chamber orchestras, the BOLT Ensemble. Through robotic sound machines the machine and artist unite, at times performing interactive real-time music scores created via computer games.

The word NIS is a word made up by Kathryn from the Amplified Elephants. It has no meaning and sums up the core of the show which is about exploring those experiences in life that can't be explained. The show that is the NIS involves sonic performances by the Amplified Elephants and the BOLT Ensemble. A loose narrative frames the show: a character discovers their "shadow" self and seeks to overcome it's dark influence. But the shadow is not all that it seems to be.

"The Nis is a near perfect fusion of contemporary sound and performance art." - performing.artshub.com.au

BEN HARPER

A rare live performance by the Australian electronic composer. Now living in London, he's been making music out of chaotic systems, collecting second-hand guitar pedals and free software patches to build complex feedback systems in states of perpetual imbalance. With a combination of analogue components and digital, computer-controlled "virtual" feedback, the two systems interact to create a hybrid, partly autonomous sonic environment which produce sounds beyond human intention. As a performer, he acts as a human mediator between these two artificial worlds, reacting to and interpreting the sound in an act of focused listening.
