New Bums (Ben Chasny & Donovan Quinn) + Tara Jane O'Neil. Ben Chasny + Donovan Quinn + Tara Jane O'Neil

No Longer Available

Great double bill of outré song and folk forms headed up by a new (awkwardly named) duo of Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and Donovan Quinn (Sky Green Leopards) whose debut LP 'Voice in a Rented Room' channels what they call the Old Drunk America. It's out now on Drag City. Alongside New Bums, Tara Jane O'Neil, whose recordings and live performances range from solo songing to noise improvisations.

NEW BUMS
 (Ben Chasny & Donovan Quinn)

New Bums formed in the summer of 2009 with Donovan Quinn (Skygreen Leopards) after Ben Chasny moved to the Mission in San Francisco, two doors down from Donovan. A healthy mistrust of each other for a good year gave way to tolerance and eventual camaraderie as they wrote their jams.

In 2011 Donovan supported Six Organs on a month long tour that saw New Bums perform at the end of Donovan’s set. Their new LP is out now on Drag City.

"So why did I start a band with Donovan Quinn? Because he’s one of the best lyricist out there today. Living in San Francisco for a few years, down the street from Donovan, was one of the more rewarding times in my life. I learned a lot about writing words. I mean, the man wrote Disciples Of California with his band, Skygreen Leopards." Ben Chasny, Six Organs of Admittance

Ben Chasny

Ben Chasny's primary projects are Six Organs of Admittance (his solo psych folk project) and Comets on Fire (a psychedelic rock band). He made his recording debut in 1996 with his heavy, free rock project Plague Lounge on "The Wicker Image", an LP released conjointly between the New World of Sound and Holy Mountain labels. Holy Mountain went on to become the "home" of many of his releases under the Six Organs Of Admittance moniker. He has also released an album with Hiroyuki Usui under the name August Born. Chasny has lent his talents to other projects such as Badgerlore, Double Leopards, Current 93 and Magik Markers both in live performance and studio albums. More recent musical projects of his include the avant-folk trio Rangda (along with guitarist Richard Bishop and drummer Chris Corsano) and the more melodic and conventional 200 Years with Magik Markers' Elisa Ambrogio.
