An evening curated by “Kukuruku Recordings”, presenting some of the label’s exceptional featured artists. The lineup includes a solo by Daniel Higgs (voice, banjo, shruti box), the collaboration between Adachi Tomomi (JP) and Jennifer Walshe (IR) and the prepared-zither duo of Tasos Stamou(GR) and Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga (GR). Three different acts of different sonic attitudes representing the variety of “kukuruku” perspective.

“Kukuruku recordings” is primarily concerned in works of music exploration and it focuses on productions made under intimate circumstances (usually meaning home, live or field recordings). It stands between free improvisation and free folk, field recordings and sound poetry as well as DIY electronic-sound experiments; but most of all it traces recordings that possess a spontaneous and ephemeral essence, much like in the way of snapshot photography.

DANIEL HIGGS

Daniel A.I.U Higgs is perhaps best known as the singer and lyricist of the now defunct band Lungfish. However, since that time he has carved out his own distinctive place as a solo artist with a number of solo records, that take in apocalyptic songcraft, raga banjo and hard to define artistry. Higgs is a prolific experimental songwriter, performer and poet, whose performances possess a unique essence of personal spirituality and create an ecstatic atmosphere which summons the audience to enter into the psychedelic world of his lyrics.

ADACHI TOMOMI & JENNIFER WALSHE

Tomomi Adachi is a Tokyo-based performer/composer, sound poet and instrument builder. Jennifer Walshe is a composer of contemporary music and a talented vocalist. Their duo, vivid and extrovert, consists of both artists’ live performing abilities into extended vocal techniques, blending with rough handmade electronics. High and low pitched trilling and yodeling sequences from Walshe’s voice as well as sudden screams and peculiar oral sounds match and conjunct in a unique way with the playful noisy glitches and minimalistic oscillations of Adachi.

TASOS STAMOU & DIMITRA LAZARIDOU CHATZIGOGA

A duo by two Greek free improvisers who are both engaged with the zither as a primary creative sound source. Tasos Stamou (also founder of “kukuruku recordings”) uses original zither sounds combined with the instrument’s own electroacoustic extension, utilizing live feedback effects and granular manipulations. Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga remaps the zither’s territory, treating it as the interior of the piano and a resonance box, by making use of various objects detached from their typical usage. She performs solo, in long-term collaborations (with Ferran Fages as ap’strophe) or in occasional formations. Their sound blends instrumental extended techniques with electronic treatments.
