John Dikeman / Steve Noble / Dominic Lash + Annette Krebs / David Dove

No Longer Available

New trio of Dikeman/Noble/Lash plus a duo set from Krebs/Dove and all five coming together for a one-off quintet.

JOHN DIKEMAN / saxophones

John Dikeman is an American saxophonist currently residing in Amsterdam. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources, John’s playing runs the gamut of improvised music and technique, ranging from reductionist extended technique based improvisation to full throttle free jazz. The underlying characteristic of his music is an unnerving commitment, a total abandonment to sound. John has performed extensively in the USA as well as Canada, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Sudan, Israel, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland and the Netherlands where he is an active performer and organizer.

STEVE NOBLE / drums

Steve Noble is London's leading drummer, a fearless and constantly inventive improviser whose super-precise, ultra-propulsive and hyper-detailed playing has galvanized encounters with Derek Bailey, Matthew Shipp, Ishmael Wadada Leo Smith, Stephen O'Malley, Joe McPhee, Alex Ward, Rhodri Davies and many, many more.

In the early eighties, Noble played with the Nigerian master drummer Elkan Ogunde, Rip Rig and Panic, Brion Gysin and the Bow Gamelan Ensemble, before going on to work with the pianist Alex Maguire and with Derek Bailey (including Company Weeks 1987, 89 and 90). He was featured in the Bailey's excellent TV series on Improvisation for Channel 4 based on his book ‘Improvisation; its nature and practise’. He has toured and performed throughout Europe, Africa and America and currently leads the groups N.E.W (with John Edwards and Alex Ward) and DECOY (with John Edwards and Alexander Hawkins).

DOMINIC LASH / double bass

Dominic Lash has performed with Tony Conrad and Evan Parker; other currently active ensembles include a duo with Alex Ward, a trio with John Butcher and John Russell and The Convergence Quartet (with Taylor Ho Bynum, Harris Eisenstadt and Alexander Hawkins). He also leads The Set Ensemble (an experimental music group mainly devoted to the work of composers from the Wandelweiser collective). Recent CD publications include work on the Another Timbre, Cathnor, Clean Feed and Psi labels. He was resident in New York for much of 2011, where he performed with musicians including Michael Pisaro, Fay Victor and Nate Wooley.

DAVID DOVE / trombone

David Dove is an American trombonist closely associated with the Nameless Sound space in Houston, Texas. He has been performing in Houston (and around the U.S.) since he joined the punk-funk band Sprawl in 1988. In the early 90s, Dove began focusing his musical attention on creative improvisation, working intensively with a small handful of like-minded musicians in Houston. In 1997, Dove began teaching at MECA, an inner-city arts community center, where he started to develop a unique approach to creative music education. In 2001, composer Pauline Oliveros invited him to organize a branch of her foundation to support his educational and curatorial activities. Since then Dove has had the opportunity to work with many important names in contemporary music and expand his teaching experience through travel in the U.S. and abroad.
