G.E.K.

A free improvisation duo, using trombone and saxophone, ranging from acoustic free jazz to electronic experiments, G.E.K. (Gud Er Kvinde - God is a Woman) is the pairing of saxophonist Johannes Lund and trombonist Maria Bertel. The members of G.E.K. are part of the essential Danish collective 'yoyooyoy’ and ’egetværelse' that has put out several releases by both Lund and Bertel individually as well as the self-titled 'Gud Er Kvinde' 10" in 2008.

Johs Lund has released myriad recordings through 'yoyooyoy', encompassing solo saxophone and collaborations with the likes of Mats Gustafsson and Tobias Kirstein (with whom Lund and Bertel set up and runs the 'Mayhem' music venue in Copenhagen). Drawing on circular breathing techniques and all-out visceral power, Lund's sound veers from dense abstractions to enveloping repetition to truly hypnotic effect. Maria Bertel is also one of the founders of ’egetværelse' that hosts Selvhenter - quickly becoming one of the most exciting new experimental bands in Europe - as well as putting out a number of extreme solo trombone releases under her own name that draw an incredible array of textures from the instrument.

Together Tralten Eller Utpult form a harsh onslaught that draws its influences from European free improvisation as well as from Japanese and Norwegian noise.
