Great double-header featuring Athens-based musician and vocalist Evita Manji, and Devonshire-born composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, performance artist and DJ, Sarahsson.

Evita Manji

Athens-based musician and vocalist Evita Manji is connecting the dots between the human experience, climate change, quantum physics and death, in an attempt to dig deeper into the primordial truth of existence. Through their carefully constructed practice of synthesis and sound design led by choir-inspired vocals, they fabricate musical worlds consisting of ever-expanding sonic organisms and shapeless solid non-materials. In 2021 Evita launched their platform myxoxym, releasing the singles “OIL/TOO MUCH” and “EYES/NOT ENOUGH”, as well as curating the first edition of the fundraising compilation series “PLASMODIUM I”, aiming to raise environmental awareness and provide support to relief efforts for wildlife affected by forest fires in Greece. Since their debut performance at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) alongside Eartheater and Soho Rezanejad (Athens, September 2021), Evita has performed in cities across Europe including London, Prague, Krakow and Zurich, and at festivals such as Unsound, Borderline, Rhizom and Lunchmeat — where they shared the stage with Amnesia Scanner at the Convent of St. Agnes. They have collaborated with numerous artists across various media and exhibited sound pieces at galleries like Kunsthalle Basel (in collaboration with Young Boy Dancing Group) and Saigon Athens.

Sarahsson

Devonshire-born Sarahsson is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, performance artist and DJ living and working in Bristol. Inspired as much by the natural world as she is by gore and harsh noise, Sarahsson fuses elements of classical music with metal, experimental electronics and folk. Her 2022 debut album ‘The Horgenaith’ draws on personal and cultural mythologies of femininity, transition and synaesthesia.

With a grant from Saffron Records in 2021 she spent time at a woodwork studio carving a Daxophone, a wooden bowed instrument, which has become an integral and unpredictable part of her live performances. Her soundtracking work began in 2016 with the Parisian fashion brand Maldito (formerly Neith Nyer), scoring their runway shows for four seasons, and more recently includes the BAFTA Cymru & Iris Prize nominated ‘Nânt’ (2022) dir. Tom Chetwode-Barton, ‘Protopia Futures’ (2021) with Monika Bielskyte, and Acne Studios’ Fall/Winter 2023 runway show.

Sarahsson has brought her unique ear for melody, rich textural harmony and dramatic narratives to an eclectic range of venues across Europe since 2020, playing alongside artists like Lyra Pramuk, Rachika Nayar, Nkisi, Marina Herlop & LEYA. Beginning her first European tour at Rewire Festival’s 2023 edition, and her second at Bendik Giske’s eponymous album release in Berlin’s Volksbühne, she finished in the main hall of Berghain for Creamcake’s 3HD Festival with a 3D-printed ornamental bow handle in the shape of a white horse’s back leg and tail designed by Leo Carlton.
