4046 Group was formed in August 2025 by Matt Atkins, Lucia H Chung, John Macedo and Paul Margree after a DIY synth building session. The group is based around a simple and inexpensive DIY electronic noise box (designed by synth builder Martin Freeman) which each member uses during live performances.
The idea behind the group is to create an open, fluid and expandable membership. Anyone who decides to build the noise box can participate in performances, making each line up and performance different. The group draws on non-traditional ways of organising and shaping performances, such as free improvisational exercises, indeterminacy and graphic scores.
These methods allow both musicians and non-musicians to equally engage in performing with live electronics. Billy Steiger was born in Howth on the 16th December, 1986. Now he plays the violin.
