The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio composed of Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya), Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.). Hailing from Cairo formed in 2012 while living in the same apartment building in Cairo's Agouza district. The trio soon set out on crafting their sound built on instrumental improvisational loops of percussion as well as taking influence from Krautrock and free jazz among other sounds.
"Time is a luxury that The Dwarfs Of East Agouza indulge themselves in fully. Deeply satisfying riffs are explored fully by the trio of Cairene electronic producer Maurice Louca, Sam Shalabi of the Land Of Kush and Sun City Girl, Alan Bishop, producing hypnotic psych rock that lies somewhere between Circle, Omar Khorshid, Can and the Groundhogs." – The Quietus • Best Albums Of The Year 2016
"In the hinterland between West Africa and a New York loft, The Dwarfs Of East Agouza dwell. Forging their sound in the fires of psychedelia, free jazz/improv, and electronic music, their’s is a strange song. Dissonant synthesiser loops and stabbing free-guitar work clash on Rats Don’t Eat Synthesisers’s two book-length tracks. Two tracks that are as arresting and violent musically as the works of Burroughs are literarily." – The Free Jazz Collective
