Duck, Alex and Joe having been playing together around London for two or three years now. All three musicians work in a variety of musical styles, and Alex and Joe are probably best-known for their work in the free improvised field, but here the focus is modern jazz. Most of the repertoire is written by Duck, but the group also performs music by such modern masters as Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols and Charlie Parker, with the occasional foray into earlier jazz styles as well. though the instrumentation is the same as the great Jimmy Giuffre/Jim Hall groups the approach is very different. This is edgy, harmonically challenging jazz that should appeal to listeners who like music with a bite.
