diy x Cafe OTO presents: Rabit, Cairo's 1127/TOR5Y, and Oxhy

RABIT brings a live showcase of his latest release to Café OTO, joined by Cairo’s 1127 and London-based OXHY.

1127 is an experimental enigma, fusing grime and hard techno with echoes of early 20th century Egyptian music. Working with a palette of brutalist power electronics, fractured rhythms and evocative location recordings, his sound will appeal to anyone attuned to futurist percussion and microtonal synthesis. With releases on Cairo’s Nashazphone and DIY records under the name TOR5Y, 1127 has become a vital reference point in emergent North African experimental music since his revelatory 2019 debut.

With RABIT, DJ Screw devotion is pulled into deeply immersive territory: codeine-soaked tape loops, heavy vapours and a slow, narcotic sense of pressure. In the decade since his debut on the influential Tri Angle label, the Texan producer has become a singular figure at the intersection of US rap, UK grime and experimental electronic music, shaping a sound across crooked albums and Screw-indebted mixtapes that feels both desolate and transportive. On Stranger in a Strange Land, he distils that process into a self-contained, tape-saturated world: groggy, hypnotic and unmistakably his own.

OXHY is a vital figure in London’s underground, with recent collaborations spanning Yves Tumor, Felix Lee and Crystallmess.

Rabit

RABIT is the alias of Houston artist Eric Burton, a producer, composer and label head whose work has carved out a singular space between grime, rap, ambient drift and experimental electronic music. Active since the early 2010s and a founder of Halcyon Veil, Burton has built a catalogue that runs from Communion and Les Fleurs Du Mal to What Dreams May Come and the recent Stranger in a Strange Land, released in March 2026. His music draws club pressure into slower, stranger and more immersive forms, shaped as much by atmosphere and texture as by rhythm.

1127

1127 is the project of Egyptian artist and musician Amr El Alamy, based in Giza. Since his 2019 debut on Nashazphone, his work has combined computer-based production, fractured rhythm and sonic fiction with traces of Egyptian musical history. His 2024 LP ض developed that language further, folding early 20th century Egyptian music into contemporary electronic form.

OXHY

OXHY is London producer Oscar Khan, founder of XQUISITE and a longstanding presence in the city’s experimental underground. His work moves between gothic sound design, leftfield club music and more melodic, song-based forms, from the 2021 LP Woodland Dance to the 2025 album the names of god. He has collaborated with artists including Yves Tumor and Felix Lee, while recent releases have also featured Crystallmess, Susu Laroche, Heith and James K.
