Daphne X

Daphne X (she/they) is a sound designer, new media artist, and curator currently residing in Linz (Austria). In her artistic practice, which involves performance, podcast, and installation, she uses the means of sonic world building to design and explore rituals of collective composition, speculative listening, and communal healing.

Her music has been released on labels such as Exiles(HU), Bezirk (UK), tssstapes (IT), and written about in Quietus, A Closer Listen, BBC3,and Bandcamp Daily. She’s exhibited and performed in festivals like Ars Electronica, Kraak and Krama(ATH,GR).

Daphne X works traverse from intimate field recordings to vibrant synthesis, abstract pop music to ghostly instrumentals. Her albums are deeply poetic explorations of everything from Galician folklore to the sound of falling water.

She is the co-founder of Cachichi, a creative studio, curatorial platform and party series, and the host of Sonic Utopias, a sonic world-building podcast that airs monthly on Movement Radio in Athens, Greece.

[something’s happening]

[something’s happening] is the sound and text duo of poet and performer Iris Colomb and composer Daryl Worthington (Beachers). The project explores textual and sonic permutation through improvisation. Fragments of found text and gestural electro-acoustics weave through spectral guitar textures. Loops of sound and language collide.

Their first release, an album of single-take live improvisations recorded with a single mic in a practice room, ‘Something Like That’, was released in May 2022 by Sensory Leakage. Their second release, a recording of a live performance from October 2022 at Cafe Oto was released on the venue’s digital label Otoroku in 2023.

“...a lattice of in-betweens, tracing translucent forms in the mind’s eye, vessels awaiting colour and shape. They recur, or tumble into delays and glitches. Repetition only hardens the ambiguity.” Jack Chuter, ATTN Magazine
