Excellent triple bill from the Archaic Vaults label featuring aircode, Severin Black & Vanessa Bedoret and Zeynep Ağcabay.
aircode is a Swedish producer based in London whose production is linked by tone rather than genre. Though, heavy dub-rhythm and careful use of space are reoccurring themes mixed with vocals, short occurrences of piano, halfway-club drum patterns and constantly changing dynamics. Following her debut release on TT (fka Tobago Tracks) we have seen releases on labels such as Alien Jams, Cafe Oto’s Takuroku and Nostro Hood System.
In light of their debut release ‘First Passage / Excommunicated’ on Archaic Vaults, Severin Black and Vanessa Bedoret will be performing improvised material and themes from this EP live together for the first time. Their collaboration first took form at the beginning of lockdown as a one-off Montez Press radio show via Whatsapp voice notes – a reaction to isolation and the pitfalls of making socially-distanced music. Severin Black’s simultaneous interest in droning energies and the destruction of fidelity is present here in split forms, woven between Vanessa Bedoret’s violin invocations, which are performed both acoustically and processed. The full body of work takes influence from ancient rituals, pilgrimages, and their new context within the current social climate.

Originally from Istanbul, Zeynep will be presenting their first body of work since becoming a Naturalized British Citizen. A departure from their previous releases, ‘Ancestral Ground’ on Berlin/London based label Archaic Vaults, ‘Memories of the Future’ on London based label Scorpio Red, and 'Another Sky Cassette' on Cafe Oto's very own OTOROKU, Zeynep is exploring more universal themes like love, loss, desire, time and faith with a sound that is deeply rooted in nostalgia for 90's trip-hop and alt-pop genres.
