Sonic Commune – previously known as Broken Sonics in a past, Corsica Studios-based life – turns 5-years-young at the turn of the year (it was spawned, online, on that strangest of NYEs: 2020); so we thought we’d celebrate with an evening of, yes, blurred sounds and expanded electronics at *the* venue for such (ad)ventures.
Headlining are the mighty :zoviet*france:, who first came our way in the summer of 2020, contributing a frankly stunning, stunningly quiet, set of esoteric ‘ambient’ sonics (or tantric sound art, if you prefer, premiered live @ CS before Covid) which eased the final Broken Sonics – a streaming, mid-pandemic affair – to a suitably slow and mind-altering halt. Tapping back into that singular portal in corporeal form, this time round they’ll be in the room with us, with a van-full of kit in tow, set to deliver something unique, improvised and unmistakably theirs for whoever’s lucky enough to be in earshot. So much more could be said about these Northern altkore giants, but, respectfully, we’ll let the show itself do that in due course and simply reiterate: 1. how utterly psyched we are to have ZF back, and 2. how utterly psychedelic this intervention will, invariably, be...

Alongside them, our friend and close collaborator Jo Johnson will bring all-new music from all-new albums (self-released + out elsewhere, soon!) into town from the opposite [South] end of the East of England. Known for her fearless co-curation of the longstanding Bleep43 event series, as well as her ongoing residency at Freerotation Festival and increasingly frequent, wide-ranging DJ sets, expect an ‘immersive journey into transcendence and catharsis’ tonight, through improvised, generative and composed electronics, expanding on her last gorgeous liveshow for us at Corsica back in 2021, at the back-end of the aforementioned lockdown/s. Again, we can't wait.

Heading north again – to Glasgow, via Brixton and Sheffield – SC hosts Ruaridh Law/TVO and Max Bacharach/AOTCI will be joined by local comrade Bryan Kerr, presenting their overlapping ‘Death Machine’ and ‘Topography’ projects in blended, A/V form. This means cloudy drones, scorched-earth noise, arbitrary fx and difficult, grid-phobic beats, with audio-reactive light arrays piercing through the fog. Bacharach and Law have, since its humble online origins, taken Sonic Commune – and affiliated mini-label Logic of the Signifier – to Corsica Studios, Iklectik and, most recently, Hackney’s bustling art-/rave-cave The Glove That Fits, but this will be its first appearance at their beloved OTO. Expect the dark stuff.

Complimenting the above like fine wine/warm bitter, SC residents Misc. DJs – Datassette, Mücha & Tengui – will keep your ears happy before, between and after the evening’s live performances, dropping all kinds of avant/outsider/unpopular musics from across the audial multiverse, with possible lashings of d*um & b*ss and evil ABBA edits, etc.

Tickets are on sale exclusively via OTO’s website – £10 for members, £15 for everyone else; or it’s £20 on the door for a small number of last-minute daredevils. As is tradition, expect A/V art dotted around the space, merch from some/all of the acts involved, and possibly a giveaway or two for the keen crew. See you in Feb...
