Angusraze’s music is like nothing on Earth, or everything on Earth all at once. While wearing the heart of myriad cultural references on his sleeve – from homoerotic cult film and radical politics to J-Pop and surrealism – his vision is singular. Angusraze’s philosophy is in the realm of Sun Ra vs. Wanda Group, offering an expanded perspective from outside of this world while remaining rooted in concrete reality. His performance at Contra Pop Festival 2022 was a multimedia storm involving maximal digital chaos, shredded Dadaist guitar, a gamut-of-emotions lightshow and semi-structured striptease. When Angusraze goes out on stage, each performance is different from the last and he leaves nothing in the dressing room by way of heart or soul. When the lights come up and the show’s over, all that’s left behind is a pool of sweat and a battered American football helmet. What happens in between? Well, you just have to be there.
