Number 7 in Nace's 'Live at' series features one of the legends of the Japanese underground Tamio Shiraishi on saxophone, and Brooklyn-based composer, and sound artist Leila Bordreuil on cello.

Tamio Shiraishi is one of the legends of the Japanese underground. For over thirty years he has continued to pursue an utterly unique eruptive style of performance interventions into consensus reality, ranging from visceral, guttural vocal explosions, intense synth blatter in an early Fushitsusha lineup, to his trademark dog whistle sonics on alto saxophone. In recent years he has been resident in New York, where he has performed with Sean Meehan, Alan Licht and sundry No-Necks. Site-specific field recordings, particularly in urban spaces, have been a long-term interest in Shiraishi's work, and while he lived in Tokyo he could often been seen late at night playing with the wind on a pedestrian bridge in Shinjuku. Recent recordings from 2008 and 2009 capture Shiraishi in the NYC subway, exhaling long thin wires of aural razor-light through the tunnels, breathing in bleak, beautiful harmony with the clanks and squeals of the occasional passing subway train.
Leila Bordreuil is a Brooklyn based cellist, composer and sound artist from France. Her cello playing is often improvised, and mainly focuses on texture variations and a collage of phantom overtones and pitched utterances. Through an original vocabulary of extended techniques, preparations, and imaginative amplification methods, her instrument is used as an abstract resonant body to challenge conventional cello practice. Her composed works draw from a similar texture-based musical aesthetic, but also focus on the relationship between sound and space. In her site-specific electro-acoustic compositions, architecture is the foundation of the piece and musicality arises from an organized spacialization of sound.
Bordreuil's collaborative projects include duos with Michael Foster and Tamio Shiraishi, a trio with Sean Ali and Joanna Mattrey, and the no-wave band “Signal Break”.
Since moving to Brooklyn in 2012, Leila has maintained an active concert schedule performing with Marina Rosenfeld, Eli Keszler, Tom Chiu (Flux quartet), Anthony Coleman, Peter Evans, Nate Wooley, SENYAWA, Toshimaru Nakamura, Tetuzi Akiyama, Bill Nace, Lee Ranaldo, Weasel Walter, Chris Corsano, Lea Bertucci and more.
Bill Nace is an artist and musician based in Western Massachusetts. He has collaborated with an extraordinary range of musicians, including Michael Morley, Mats Gustafsson, Joe McPhee, Chris Corsano, Jooklo Duo, Chris Cooper, John Truscinski, Thurston Moore, Jake Meginsky, Jessica Rylan, Paul Flaherty, Wally Shoup, and Kim Gordon, with whom he regularly plays as one half of the duo Body/Head. Their critically acclaimed LP “Coming Apart” was released on Matador last September. He has been a featured musician in festivals such as ATP (curated by Jim Jarmusch and held in Monticello, NY), Colour Out of Space(Brighton, UK), Supersonic Festival (Birmingham, UK), International Festival Musique Actuelle (Victoriaville, QC), and Homegrown (Boston, MA). He has performed in a wide variety of venues, running the gamut from the Musee d'Art Contemporain (Strasbourg, France) to The Stone (NYC) to Bennington College (Vermont). Nace’s range has been described as “veering from sculptural, almost Remko-Scha-esque chime to Loren Connors-style elegance in only a few short moves.” (Mimaroglu Music,
