Formed as a loose collective focused on improvising and realising compositions by group members, the 6 musicians at the heart of Ya Basta! have now been playing together for over 20 years. Occasional gigs and a wide range of activities pursued by group members has kept the music in a constant state of creative flux with the outcome of each gig both unpredictable and fulfilling in equal measures for band and audience alike. Quickly building momentum from almost conversational beginnings the ensuing music can encompass influences from electric Miles, Can, Sun Ra, Beefheart, Alt Rock, Free Jazz and the world of improvised music. Collaboration has also played an important role in this journey taking in Lol Coxhill, Maggie Nicols, Hugh Metcalfe and Michael Ray and Dave Davis of the Sun Ra Arkestra among others.
