VERYAN WESTON
Veryan Weston began working as a jazz pianist in London (1972). In 1975, he received a fellowship and residency at Digswell House in Hertfordshire where he co-founded and composed for Stinky Winkles and collaborated with visual artists including Stephen Cochrane. He also composes music for film, the most notable being with long-term friend and collaborator Lol Coxhill on Derek Jarman's Caravaggio (1985).
In the '80s and '90s, he worked internationally with the Eddie Prévost Quartet and Trevor Watts' Moiré Music. Collaborations with Phil Minton have included the Ways duos, two choral projects, a quartet performing extracts from Joyce’s Finnegans wake, and 4Walls. Other duos include Jon Rose (EMANEM 4207), Caroline Kraabel (EMANEM 4048), Hugh Metcalfe, and a trio with John Edwards and Mark Sanders (EMANEM 4028, 4214, and 4205).
‘Tessellations’ for solo piano was given support from the Peter Whittingham Foundation (London – 2001) and performed on the only remaining original Luthèal Piano at the Museum of Musical Instruments (Brussels) (EMANEM 4095). A published paper on pentatonic scales preceded a performance of Tessellations at International Conference of Bridges: Mathematical Connections in Art, Music, and Science, Granada, Spain.
DARREN MORRIS
Darren Morris is a keyboards and bass player based in St Leonards (Hastings), UK who, over the last 11 years, has worked closely with musicians, DJs and producers both in London and New York. These include Tim Goldsworthy (DFA Records and UNKLE), David Holmes (DJ/Producer), producer Jagz Kooner (Sabres, The Aloof, Reverend and The Makers), Primal Scream, and X-Press 2 (Rocky, Diesel and Ashley Beedle).
Morris has played keyboards for British artist Gabrielle in her live performances since March 2000 (tours and TV); and in 2006 the band Sugardaddy (Tim Hutton and Groove Amada’s Tom Findlay).
Most recently, Morris has been writing with producer/DJ Ashley Beedle, releasing works on Beedle’s label Out Hear under the names of Warbox Allstars (reggae, old school rootsy sounds) and The London Heavy Disco Review (disco/psychedelia).
He has been an active member of the improvisation scene in London and Brighton and has played alongside musicians such as Hugh Metcalfe, Veryan Weston and John Edwards and Lol Coxhill. Morris was involved in the birth of the infamous Klinker Club and continues to play bass for Fuck Off Batman and God’s Mama (Klinker favourites).
