Small but Hard presents Devilman + Walter Gross + Deadfader

No Longer Available

To kick off the UK/EU tour for Devilman (Scotch Egg, Dokkebi Q, Bo Ningen) and Walter Gross (incredible noise hip hop alchemist) Small But Hard decided to come back to Cafe Oto, also to celebrate the new Walter Gross LP Rotorcraft coming out soon on the label. There are some yet to be announced guests to be added to the line up shortly.

WALTER GROSS

Walter Gross has been branding his own name of beats, ambience, and experimental sound for a number of years. Starting in the Baltimore scene and transporting to Los Angeles first to work as Youth : Kill with k-the-i??? and then to eventually branch off and make a name for himself. Walter Gross has continued to diligently spend countless hours developing his sound and expanding to different mediums, from the visual perspective of painting to the representation of movement in a collection of insane cinematography. WG has worked with countless talents including collaborations with Andy Ben, Tenshun, Psychopop, Bizzart, Julia LaDense, and a new horizon with legendary founders of Anticon, Sole and Pedestrian. WG has shown his ability to produce diversity in sound and each effort is a solitary piece of art. WG believes in the art of not only his produced sound but also the care of the packaging and has developed and built homemade crafted cassette and cdr covers/packaging that represents the morbidity of his mind.

DEVILMAN

The visceral and compelling Devilman are harvested by a secret underground organisation fronted by the mysterious Mr D, all distilled through the psyche-noise freak vocal of Bo Ningen's Taigen Kawabe.

Their self-titled release is nine shards of corrosive beats, bass and razor sharp, noise-inflected live-dub destruction. Devilman have created a sound that is hard to ignore: abrasive yet accessible; infectious and expansive, shaping a new terrain for noise and bass music and living up to their namesake, the legendary Japanese comic/animation. Devilman is ultimately the soundtrack of a world being turned inside out.

Shigeru Ishihara is prolific in his output, and has collaborated with E-Da (ex Boredoms) in epic psychedelic outfit DRUM EYES; works with Bo Ningenʼs Taigen Kawabe, and Dokkebi Qʼs Gorgonn in dub distortion unit DEVILMAN, and also plays bass in newly reformed electronic pioneers, SEEFEEL.

DEADFADER

Dead Fader construct savagely abrasive dance tracks from molten blocks of noise and distortion. Intelligently distressed synths and deteriorated samples tap into your innermost cerebral hemispheres; unapologetic dread noise blasting through your core and assassinating dance floors.

Dead Fader first burst on to the scene in 2010 with their debut album Corrupt My Examiner on the independent label 3by3. Blistering distorted beats. Industrial grade funk basslines. Nauseating synth workouts, encompassing a dizzying array of different musical styles. Since then the duo has now become a solo effort of John Cohen. 2011 saw the release of a 6 track EP on the legendary Tigerbeat6 label, and in 2012 Cohen collaborated with the seminal MC Sensational on a hiphop-infected EP for the UK independent label Robot Elephant. 2013 will see the release of Dead Fader's second full length album.
