Delighted to present this special festival celebrating Oren Ambarchi's 50th birthday and 10 years of his Black Truffle label. Spilling over three unmissable days, the festival (curated by Oren himself) features a packed international bill of special guests, projects and collaborations, all closely associated with Oren and his label.

David Rosenboom (b. 1947) is a composer, performer, interdisciplinary artist, author, and educator known as a pioneer in American experimental music. His work explores ideas about the spontaneous evolution of musical forms, languages for improvisation, new techniques in scoring for ensembles, multi-disciplinary composition and performance, cross-cultural collaborations, performance art and literature, interactive multi-media and new instrument technologies, generative algorithmic systems, art-science research and philosophy, and extended musical interface with the human nervous system. He holds the Richard Seaver Distinguished Chair in Music at California Institute of the Arts, where he has been Dean of The Herb Alpert School of Music since 1990. Recent work highlights include: fifty-year retrospective performances at Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2015); exhibition of brainwave music at Centre Pompidou-Metz, France (2015-2016); exhibition of computer music software innovations at Whitechapel Gallery, London (2015-2016); retrospective of piano music at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall (2016); premiere of Nothingness is Unstable at ISSUE Project Room, Brooklyn (2017); electronic music featured by inaGRM at Le Centquatre-Paris (2018); and composer-pianist portrait at Center for Experiments at Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires (2018). Following his Whitney retrospective, Rosenboom was lauded in The New York Times as an “avatar of experimental music.” Rosenboom is a Yamaha Artist.
crys cole is a Canadian sound artist working in composition, improvised performance and sound installation. Generating subtle and imperfect sounds through haptic gestures and seemingly mundane materials, she creates textural works that continuously retune the ear.
cole has ongoing collaborations with James Rushford (AU) (as Ora Clementi) and Oren Ambarchi (AU) and has worked recently with Francis Plagne (AU), Leif Elggren (SW), Tetuzi Akiyama (JP), David Rosenboom (US), Keith Rowe (UK), Seiji Morimoto (JP/DE), Jessika Kenney (US), Tim Olive (JP/CA) and many more. Her work has been published by Black Truffle (AU), Penultimate Press (UK), Ultra Eczema (BE), caduc. (CA), Bocian (PL), Another Timbre (UK) and Infrequency editions (CA/DE). She has performed and exhibited her work worldwide.
Julia Reidy makes music for processed and acoustic instruments (mostly guitars). Their recent recorded work—brace, brace (Slip 2019,) In Real Life (Black Truffle 2019), and Vanish (Editions Mego 2020)—can be described as a series of non-traditional song forms which combine unstable harmonic territories, rhythmic elasticity and abstract narrative over stretched, episodic forms. They have performed at Tectonics Festival (SCT), Send/Receive Festival (CA), Mona Foma (AUS), Berlin Jazz Festival (DE), Angelica Festival (ITA) and Borderline Festival (GR).
Oren Ambarchi is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and musical polymath who has been releasing records with the frequency of someone who prefers studio time to sleep. His remarkably prolific and diverse oeuvre since the 90's has included releases such as “Suspension” (2002), “Grapes From The Estate” (2004), “Audience Of One” & “Sagittarian Domain” (both 2012), “Quixotism” (2014) & “Hubris” (2016).
Ambarchi continues to collaborate with artists the world over and in the last few years his longform compositions have featured many friends and collaborators constituting some of his most adventurous work to date and demonstrating his slippery capacity for stylistic shapeshifting whilst retaining his singular musical language.
Francis Plagne is a musician from Melbourne, Australia whose work swings between songwriting and a variety of other approaches, including group improvisation, instrumental abstraction and domestic musique concrète. He has been performing live regularly since 2005 and had released recordings on labels such as Albert's Basement, Black Truffle, Kye Records, Penultimate Press and his own Mould Museum. Alongside his solo work, he works with James Rushford and Joe Talia as Food Court, in a duo with Canadian sound artist crys cole and in various collaborative projects with the English ambient musician Andrew Chalk. Recent releases include Two Words with crys cole (Black Truffle), an album-length 'piece that brings together abstract texture and slow-motion song in a sonic space where genre cedes to the logic of dreams' and Moss Trumpet (Penultimate Press), a home-recorded stew of instrumental and environmental sounds layered to create a woozy, constantly shifting texture.
Manuel Pessoa de Lima is a pianist performer-composer based in Brazil. Themes in his work often include creating irony around the notion of high culture, destabilizing the traditional concert setting, with intimate stories including confessional elements and multimedia created for site-specific performances. Manuel attended and received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2016 where he was also a lecturer. Compositionally, his diverse catalog includes works for dance, theater, cinema (and live cinema), television, sound installation, and orchestra. He is currently developing solo performances using red light bulbs, sound and video.
