Monolithic Monolithic's complex structures - fueled by pure explosive energy - seek to push the boundaries of rhythmical music today. The duo of Stian Westerhus (Baritone Guitar/Puma/Jaga Jazzist) and Kenneth Kapstad (Drums/Motorpsycho) create layers and layers of intensity that is intricate, loud, and just astounding. The Trondeim based duo have been impressing both jazz and metal fans alike.
Stian Westerhus is the most exciting guitarist on the Norwegian experimental music scene, his vinyl only release ”Galore” (TLRC1) and this new solo album ”Pitch Black Star Spangled” showing a musician challenging and stretching the limits of his instrument beyond the normal confines of the electric guitar, balancing raw expressiveness against virtuosity and melodic instinct. He is a founder member of Puma and the Monolithic duo with Motorpsycho drummer Kenneth Kapstad, he was for a short period a member of Jaga Jazzist and played on their ”One-Armed Bandit” album and is currently a member of Nils Petter Molvær´s new trio.
