Paul Clipson / Luke Younger (Helm) + Dalglish + SOME TRUTHS

No Longer Available

Film maker Paul Clipson pairs his saturated super8 film projections in two new collaborations; one with Luke Younger aka Helm, and one with Berlin-based musician and producer Dalglish. Since 2003, Clipson has collaborated on film/music performances, documentaries and short films with sound/music artists such as Tarentel, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Joshua Churchill, Robert Rich, Jim Haynes and Metal Rouge, projecting largely improvised in-camera edited experimental films employing multiple exposures, dissolves and macro imagery, that bring to light subconscious preoccupations and unexpected visual forms. Younger's compositions build a dense aural landscape that touches on musique concrete, uncomfortable sound poetry, noise, and hallucinatory drones.

NB: Unfortunately Dalglish has cancelled his appearance at this event.

LUKE YOUNGER

Luke Younger is a Sound Artist and experimental musician based in London, working with a vast array of revolving instrumentation and abstract sound sources most frequently under the name HELM.

Younger's compositions build a dense aural landscape that touches on musique concrete, uncomfortable sound poetry, noise, and hallucinatory drones. His most last LP for the Kye label, Cryptography, presents a five-part suite of expertly rendered electro-acoustic study which uses processed piano, Casio MT-40, cymbal and broken guitar strings. Younger creates a world where these instruments morph into spectral rust, a shimmering klang swims alongside passive noise and the relationship between acoustic and electronic derived sounds forms a solid foundation. This sound is steered through a melange of fringe territories: glacial drone meditations, reconfigured gamelan clusters, and howling walls of organized feedback, all coalesced in a post-industrial fashion with a commitment to homemade exploratory zeal.

For the past ten years, Younger has also performed extensively in Europe and the US with Steven Warwick as pioneering avant-drone duo Birds of Delay.

SOME TRUTHS

Some Truths is a new project from Ralph Cumbers aka Bass Clef. Made entirely on a modular synth, with each live performance unique, written at the soundcheck, the only way.

Each track is a one-take meditation, always changing but always the same, like light and wind on water, or an oil slick in a puddle of rain. Reference points and inspiration would be Eliane Radigue, John Carpenter, Mika Vainio , Vladislav Delay and The Radiophonic Workshop.

The debut album The First Gate Of Dreaming was released on cassette by new label MAGIC + DREAMS, to be followed by second album Damnation Poisoned With Rainbows in the summer.

Some Truths will make its vinyl debut on a new 12” on Mordant Music (who first released Shackleton) alongside tracks by kindred spirit Ekoplekz.

DALGLISH

Dalglish is one of the many monikers of Berlin-based musician/producer Chris Douglas, whose story reads like a lesson in the development of outside electronic music over the past 20 years. He began throwing the first ambient techno parties in San Francisco at just 16 years old, and moved to Detroit a year later to begin working with Mike Banks (Underground Resistance) and James Stinson (Drexciya).

He relocated to Berlin in the early 2000's after being invited to support Autechre on their Confield tour (and perform at the now legendary Autechre curated ATP Festival), and has since steadily releaed challenging and intense records as Dalglish, O.S.Y., Scald Rougish and Seaes, all the while maintaining an elusive personal profile. He has also worked extensively in fil music as having recently composed the soundtrack for the film 'Out Of Competition' for the 70th Venice Biennale, as well as Anna Eborn's recent film 'Pine Ridge' among others. Furthermore he is a founding member of audiovisual collective SYNKEN featuring members of Transforma.
