Lee Ranaldo - Solo Acoustic + Xu Shaoyang

No Longer Available

Singer-songwriter, visual artist, record producer and co-founder of Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo is an iconic guitar player with a solo discography that spans three decades. This is a very rare chance to see him playing solo and acoustic.

"When Last Night on Earth gets it right, the results are magical – the searing ‘The Rising Tide’ is the highlight of any post-Youth output to date – and whilst we’re likely to be denied the special alchemy that the four of them seemed capable of conjuring up with such consummate ease for so long for the foreseeable future, we still have the opportunity to hear genuine pioneers of alternative rock making music on their own terms – we should cherish them while we can." - The Line of Best Fit, review of 'Last Night On Earth'

XU SHAOYANG

Xu Shaoyang is a member of the cult errant pop group Maher Shalal Hash Baz, and like the Japanese collective his songs pick apart conventional ideas of musicality by embracing fragments, happy accidents and the spirit of amateurism. The artist's simple victory is his ability to revive the idea of the simple redemptive power of song; that what can seem like trite over-sentimentality in popular music, can in the right hands be transformed into the source for a beautiful lament or celebration.

"Semi-sketched melodic figures dribble from his guitar, while an impromptu rhythm section constructs a tentative spine beneath what is about as disjointed and feral a rendering of 'pop' music as you'll get. Yet a rare purity of intent and spirit radiates above the distracted." - Niigata English Journal, Japan
