Scorpio Red presents: Laenz + Xenia Xamanek + Yomi & Kelman Duran

£15 £13 Advance £12 MEMBERS

A night of live performances curated by label Scorpio Red.

Laenz expands upon the soundscapes forged on her debut album ’88 keys’, featuring experiments with radio transmission, dubbed out sonics, guitar and vocals. Xenia Xamanek presents a collaged expression of album ‘Germinate [Imprint] Wilt [Stay]’ seeing classic oratorio and opera transformed into haunting sonic sketches and leaky modes of storytelling around “cuentos y leyendas de honduras”. Kelman Duran and Yomi perform live renditions of a forthcoming collaborative project.

Laenz

Laenz is a producer based in Brooklyn, NY, working within radiophonic textures and caliginous dance music. Her work explores the sonification of indeterminate spaces, saturating abstract musical forms with intensely tender and personal observations. She uses vocals, radio equipment, and live processing in her performances, sonifying unknowable sounds into unsuspecting ears. She holds a Lot residency, and has released projects under Woozy, Early Reflex, Dance Data, and more.

Xenia Xamanek

With an insatiable curiosity and a fearless approach to genre, multidisciplinary artist Xenia Xamanek has cultivated a dynamic and ever-evolving sonic universe. Xamanek’s musical productions, live performances and DJ sets defy convention, combining the hard-hitting corporeal euphoria of reggaeton and perreo with mind-expanding abstraction, abrasive attacks of noise, and delicate compositions. Their back catalogue embraces the full spectrum of emotions and expression whilst being rooted in the experience of existing inside of ambiguities and contrasts. Personal narratives, familial connections and responses to reality blend seamlessly with fictional layers, creating an immersive soundscape of imagined worlds and characters.

Yomi

Yomi is a sound artist from Mexico City, where he has operated within the underground music community since his teenage years. He co-founded the label Sonido Inconsciente (2010-2020) and more recently curates the event series ‘b.r.i.g.a.d.e’. Deeply influenced by rock and punk his most recent solo work evokes evolving landscapes: damaged field recordings pulse against hip-hop, noise and ambient compositions, always rooted in inspiration from his daily life.

Kelman Duran

Kelman Duran is a Dominican producer, composer and visual artist known for his  expansive soundscapes and dembow and reggaeton infusions. Emerging as fixture of LA's underground RAIL UP crew, he now co-runs both Scorpio Red and an LA based ambient, experimental and avant-garde series focused on BIPOC artists called Deluge. While he sees his music as a purely emotional counterpart to his visual arts and film work, his artistic and scholarly interests focus on issues of racism, police brutality, and the interplay between disenfranchised groups and civil architecture.
