Upset the Rhythm presents Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) + Trumpets of Death

No Longer Available

"Wherein the point of full-on band shows is to explode everything, I think the point of solo shows is to implode...There is still destruction, but less debris, [and] more black holes." (Jamie Stewart in XLR8R)

JAMIE STEWART is the principle songwriter, musician and vocalist behind the legendary group Xiu Xiu, he's very much one of UTR's favourite artists. Xiu Xiu's sound draws heavily from wildly disparate sources - cacophonous noise, gamelan, folk and the lush hooks of 80s UK post-punk, to name a few - while Jamie's tortured lyrics and anguished delivery consistently deal with the morose, suspected and the taboo. After touring 'Women as Lovers' - the band's sixth full-length for Kill Rock Stars as a full band Jamie decided to take to the road with more intimate performance. He's now back again. Expect new material, unusual covers and favourite tracks from the Xiu Xiu back catalogue, making for a truly special experience.

THE TRUMPETS OF DEATH

The Trumpets of Death are: Karl D'Silva (alto saxophone, clarinet), Alastair Neilson (percussion), Laura Parsons (keyboard, voice, percussion), Ben Wetherill (voice, guitar, clarinet, keyboard).

"Benjamin Wetherill, playing with the Trumpets of Death, steps right out of the ordinary immediately, treading a fine line between madness and marvel. His tremoringly intense persona is drowned beneath drones, scattered rhythms and quite inhumane saxophone playing, and takes persistence to follow. Constantly sinister, crawling and depraved jazz harmony...Wetherill pummels his chromatic freak folk with real meaning, and baffling energy." The Skinny
