James Ferraro is an artist of the 21st century Pop Art wave, exploring the chaos in today’s world by focusing on its most garish aspects and on the fetishes of today’s hyper-real capitalism. He releases under a wide variety of pseudonyms and was also a member of The Skaters (with Spencer Clark) and Lamborghini Crystal, as well as several other solo aliases and collaborations.
His acclaimed 2011 album 'Far Side Virtual' was elected best album of the year by British music magazine The Wire. While with 'Far Side Virtual' he was recycling the sound trash of corporate terror and mixing it with utopian Dubai dream realities, with his following project Bodyguard Ferraro drew heavily from r&b, hiphop und synth pop. Sweet synth melodies, stretched reverbs, compression-heavy vocal snippets and slow, hazy beats melting into a and organic and hypnotic sound to yield a new kind of deformed electronic pop – or rather a slow jam for the late night hours.
Since then he’s recorded his mixtape-record ‘Cold’ and ‘NYC, Hell 3:00 AM’, both released on Hippos In Tanks, which have seen him progress and develop in this territory, while also adding vocals and more recognizable -though visionary- song forms. He’s recently done work for major contemporary arts institutions, as was the case with his ‘100%’ digital and sound design work for PS1 MoMA. ‘Suki Girlz’ is his latest mixtape, available exclusively via Soundcloud, which follows an ongoing series of YouTube and Soundcloud works done under several digi-heteronyms and fictional personas.
