Gary Lucas

Gary Lucas has released over 25 albums to date in a variety of genres, including rock, folk, jazz, classical and world music,  that have garnered excellent reviews. He has been called "One of the best and most original guitarists in America" (Rolling Stone), "Legendary Left-field guitarist" (The Guardian), and "One of the 100 greatest living guitarists" (Classic Rock). Last year he was featured twice in Guitar Player Magazine. His solo shows are renowned for Gary's fire-breathing approach to both performance and breadth of repertoire--he covers the waterfront--making his work hard to categorize. His solo acoustic work is especially outstanding in an area which, as Lucas describes," there is nowhere to hide".

After establishing his reputation as a featured soloist with avant-rock visionary Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart), Gary Lucas emerged out of the NYC Downtown Scene in the late 80's and went on to establish his name as a formidable artist in his own right, with appearances to date in over 40 countries, including China, India, Mexico, Australia, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, and Cuba. A Grammy-nominated songwriter and composer, Lucas has recorded and performed with Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Peter Hammill, John Cale, Patti Smith, Chris Cornell, John Zorn, Future Sound of London, Roswell Rudd, and numerous other luminaries from the entire spectrum of music--and has specialized in avant-rock with his longtime band Gods and Monsters, who at one time featured Jeff Buckley as lead singer. He also composes and performs original film scores live to both silent and sound films at venues including the NY Film Festival at Lincoln Center and the London Jazz Festival at Queen Elizabeth Hall. Last year he released 3 albums--an acclaimed collaboration with Peter Hammill ("Otherworld"), an album of film music,  "Cinefantastique", and an avant-dance album "Musical Blaze-Up" with Colleen Murphy under the name Wild Rumpus. Mr. Lucas makes his home in NYC.
