GANNETS / Viv Albertine

No Longer Available

GANNETS are ……

Fyfe Dangerfield (piano/keyboards)

Alex Ward (clarinet)

Chris Cundy (Bass clarinet)

Dom Lash (Doublebass)

Steve Noble (drums)

Gannets posit an alternative jazz history in which 30’s swing developed straight into a combined form of the free jazz and fusion movements-without any of the intervening decades of subsequent factionalism!

"Some absorbing free music mingled with oddly archaic, early Jazz, melodic ideas from Gannets - who could almost be the abstract improv version of the Guillemots. They sparked off extended forest fires of noise, with Steve Noble providing the fuel at the drums” (John Fordham-the Guardian)

"Gannets were one of the highlights of the London Jazz festival-with their extended improvisations, that lurch between the sublime and the ridiculous” (Time Out)

Plus a solo set from Viv Albertine - The Slits guitarist playing solo songs!

"Very open and honestlyrically and musically. A great mix of organic earthiness and clean industry. Also quite haunting and saying something that matters. Very slight hints of the Slits’ Viv but most definitely on a new path”

(Ian Loughran NZ Radio)
