From the Lips to the Moon is an unruly post-disciplinary performance fusing multi-genres of music, words, poetry, and movement created by Pouya Ehsaei (live electronics) and Tara Fatehi (poetry/performance). In this edition, they are joined by the trio of singer and composer Maddalena Ghezzi, pianist and synth player Maria Chiara Argirò, and vocalist and bass player Ruth Goller on the occasion of the release of their new album. Together they explore how the collaborative music of the trio can blend into the work of From the Lips to the Moon to create new sonic worlds.
From the Lips to the Moon blends live and electronic music, touching on jazz, ambient punk, dub, with spoken word, and performance into an unruly, multi-sensory experience. It is a space for unexpected encounters, radical openness, and endless playfulness – an “ecstatic embrace of dissonance” (Nero Editions).
Since 2022, From the Lips to the Moon has become a driving force in London’s experimental performance scene, with past shows at Southbank Centre, Latitude, V&A, Cafe OTO, 180 Studios, Sophiensaele, Teatro Lucido, NTS and Soho Radio among others. POUYA EHSAEI is a live electronic musician, composer and sound designer working on the intersections of experimental electronic music, live improv and dub techno, characterised by influences from industrial music, breakbeat, jazz, noise, and Iranian folk and classical music. He is co-founder of From the Lips to the Moon, the band-leader of Cuban-Iranian ensemble Ariwo and co-founder of Parasang where he led long-form improvisations in a clubbing context. His latest album People of the Wind is out on Akazib Records (2025).

TARA FATEHI works across performance, movement, voice, and writing exploring multivocality, unfinishedness, and ambiguity. Her playful practice is inspired by everyday absurdity, the inevitability of politics, and misremembered histories. She has performed at Nottdance, V&A, Tate Modern, Southbank Centre, Arnolfini, Montpelier Dance, Oslo Dansens Hus, parks, streets, warehouses, and more. She is co-founder of From the Lips to the Moon, experimental punk-inspired music and spoken word night; author of Mishandled Archive (LADA, 2020), a series of 365 public interventions; and vocalist of People of the Wind (Akazib, 2025).

Maddalena Ghezzi is a London based singer, composer and improviser. Her voice was described as “ethereal” and her approach as “giving the sensation of something ancient but also otherworldly” by JazzWise Magazine. Ghezzi has released five EPs as part of her series, Minerals that feature on BBC Radio, NTS and WFMU, USA. Maddalena has performed with Matana Roberts, Jessica Ackerley and Pouya Ehsaei and co-written the piece re·member water with New York based tap dancer and percussion artist Melissa Almaguer.
Maria Chiara Argirò (Innovative Leisure) is a synth player, pianist, producer and vocalist. She has been a central figure in the UK jazz, classical and electronic worlds. Her critically acclaimed works, Forest City and Closer, have been covered by The Guardian, Pitchfork, Vogue and Rolling Stone and were described by Giles Peterson as “absolutely crazy good”. A skilled pianist since childhood, she’s collaborated with everyone from These New Puritans to Jono McCleery to Jamie Leeming alongside output with Moonfish. Her music has featured in the Netflix series, Elite.
Ruth Goller (International Anthem) is a bassist, vocalist, composer, environmentalist and solo artist who is one of the pillars of the UK creative music scene. Her intimate voice and bass guitar entwine in her debut album, ‘Skylla’, exhibiting a confidence that reflects her experience at the vanguard of the European jazz scene. Her second release Skyllumina is out on International Anthem. As ECM Reviews put it, Goller “unravel(s) an intimacy so deep it (feels) almost blasphemous to be privy to its wonders.”
