4046 Group was formed in August 2025 by Matt Atkins, Lucia H Chung, John Macedo and Paul Margree after a DIY synth building session. The group is based around a simple and inexpensive DIY electronic noise box (designed by synth builder Martin Freeman) which each member uses during live performances.
The idea behind the group is to create an open, fluid and expandable membership. Anyone who decides to build the noise box can participate in performances, making each line up and performance different. The group draws on non-traditional ways of organising and shaping performances, such as free improvisational exercises, indeterminacy and graphic scores.
These methods allow both musicians and non-musicians to equally engage in performing with live electronics. It was the year of justice, the year of injustice, the year a rogue AI knew the meaning of wisdom - the year of weeping. Such an uncommon time, this week of speaking.
Jackson Burton was born in Scotland, lives in London and works with scores, text pieces and action-based performances that deal with issues of class, labour practices and community. Recent live output has included performances at Cafe OTO, The Fruit Market Edinburgh, YDP Gallery London and You and Me Festival Beijing. He usually performs in solo or duo combinations and has performed pieces with Graham Lambkin, Aine O’Dwyer, Yan Jun and Rory Salter. Recently he’s released on Infant Tree in 2023, with Adam Bohman, Sophie Sleigh-Johnson and Sue Lynch and a live solo LP on OTORoku in 2025.
Rory Salter is based in London, working mostly with sound and performance, as a musician and sound technician. Recordings are available via Index Clean, TEETH, Research Laboratories, Zoomin' Night & others. A new album 'a sky cold as clay' is out now on Infant Tree.
Billy Steiger is an artist working across performance, recording, drawing, and printmaking. This work often takes systems of reproduction, transmission and mediation as both material and subject.

- a proposed (re)history of technology, using the vibrating string as framing mechanism.
- an album of modified pipe organ recordings, to be released by OtoRoku in 2027.
- an ongoing investigation into audio compression algorithms and the artefacts and loss inherent to digital/analogue boundary states.
