Excited to host another great triple bill from the Discrepant record label, whose aim is to deconstruct, distort and re-assemble the lore of (un)popular music around the world; in this case Lagoss (Canary Islands), Babau (Italia), and Serpente (Portugal).
Experimental Tropical improv trio from Tenerife made up of Daniel Garcia, Gonçalo F. Cardoso and Mladen Kurajica. All three experienced musicians in their own right through various projects with an international following including Gonzo, GAF, Papillon, Tupperwear, Salétile, Afgan and many other collaborations including São Paulo Underground or Rob Mazurek. Improvising regularly in the midst of sub-tropical northern tenerife, amongst banana fields, vertiginous cliffs and the ever present wide blue sea, a knees up, anything goes affair.
Babau is an Italian music duo formed by Luigi Monteanni and Matteo Pennesi, exploring the intersection of exotica, computer music, and transglobal sonic subcultures in the post-internet age. With releases on Discrepant, Artetetra and an upcoming work on Impatience, their work unfolds as an ongoing investigation into sound as a vessel for digital myth-making. They have been selected as SHAPE+ artists 2022/23 and performed in festivals such as Outernational Days (RO), Terraforma (IT), Camps Cosmic (DE) and Saturnalia (IT). For ten years, they have been running the fifth world & digital folklore imprint Artetetra, dedicated to showcasing the developments of a possible transglobal, radical exoticism.
Bruno Silva's entity - aka Ondness, part of Má Estrela or Fala Mariam 3 - that projects itself as a gateway into off kilter hypnosis summoned from particles of ecstatic polyrhythms, jungle debris, dub tactics and the communal dancefloor calling through free jazz streams of consciousness. Throughout this trajectory, Serpente gathered releases on labels such as Alien Jams, Ecstatic and Discrepant sub-labels Souk and Sucata Tapes.
